Snare Batter Head

It really depends on how you want to tune it and what sound you are looking for. The most common snare batters are Remo Ambassador and Evans G1. The Evans is slightly brighter but they pretty much behave the same. I tend to have Remo's on metal drums and the Evans on wood ones, but that's my taste. Hard hitters in loud bands may go for heavier Emperors or G2s. When you get into heads with rings or dots, things change drastically and the sound is highly affected by the head. Practicing or recording a drier head may sound good to you, but on a live gig the ring of a single ply head doesn't stand out. It actually carries some sense of sustain and tone into the room.
