Showmanship - stick spinning

I have been trying to work out how this drummer spins his stick on this video:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=5t4apMaSp6k

You can see his spin the stick at 0.58 and 1.04

I can't find how to do this technique, it seems quite useful as it always ends with a cymbal hit, is quite quick and looks good.

Anyone know how this technique is done?

Your video was blocked, but Mike Terrana has the best stick control and twirling than just about anyone.....

I don't think that's a spin in that he is not controlling it with his fingers.

It looks like he flips the stick, follows it in the air with his palm, and then catches it quickly.

Thats what I was thinking he does, but I can't work out how to do it. It seems quite useful in that after the spin it is back in his hand in a playing position so he can immediately strike the cymbal.

He does the stick hanging in mid air on this video too. Filmed from behind so maybe easier to work out.
