As I've gotten older, the less I have to twist around for that 2nd floor tom the better. I have to have at least 3 toms though and they have to sound LOW ! Here's the gig kit....

'09 Tama Starclassic Performer B/B 22x18, 8x10, 9x12, 16x14 Crystal Blue Burst. Heads are Evans G2's over G1's, Remo PS3 bass head with an Aquarian Regulator reso.
Snare is an '04 DW Solid 1 ply 5.5x14 in Natural Satin Oil finish. Remo PS3 head. Diplomat clear snare side.

Other stuff: Mapex Falcon PF1000 kick pedal, Pearl 900 series snare and hi-hat stands. Zildjian Rock 21" ride, 18" med/thin crash, 17" thin crash, Paiste 14" sound edge hi-hats, Paiste 10" splash. 3 Tama medium duty booms stands, some Vater 5B's, and a bunch of Shure mics........ let's rock !!

I'll play:

I've been experimenting with different drum and cymbal configurations since the beginning of the year. Went back to this config for a sub gig a couple of weeks ago and it was just like going home.

There is nothing corny or old skool about 2-up and 1-down ;) There's a reason the set-up has survived this far - it's useable for just about every style of music.

Bo, I am pretty sure that was not meant to be an insult on the config.

GRUNTER your drum room is so nice and clean. Really classy man, mine needs a serious makeover. I bought one of those nice Amish sheds for practice/studio, but my 19 year old son turned it into his first apartment.

I'm sure I could make a 2 up 1 down setup from most of my kits, but its not a configuration I usually play. I will have, though, a 2 up 1 down setup very shortly. It's currently 1 up/1 down but I got a good price on a second rack tom so I bought it.

But... I did buy another 4 piece kit at the same time that will be 2 up/1 down as well. Aw damn, I got 2up/1downs coming out my ass now.

Some pretty kits in here to say the least! What was that Huey Lewis and The News song.........."it's hip to be square" ? ;)

This is my home studio kit---nothing fancy, but since guitar is my primary instrument it's more than adequate for my needs!

My office yesterday. It didn't suck. The bay of Green Bay is at my back. Nice and breezy :)

Beautiful Tama singleflammedmill. I've got one in 20k/12rt/14ft, and I have been trying to find a 10 for years.

Old skool thingys? Oh well, most of the (beautiful) kits displayed here are 5 pieces, but with the two up displaced on the left of the bass drum, which is not really old skool, is it? Just laughing!

The first guy I saw play the offset toms was Dale Griffin of Mott the Hoople. I'm sure there were others too but that goes back to the mid 70's. Depends on your definition of "old" I guess.

Good point Jimi, I also remember Dale Griffin, and maybe we could also mention Phil Collins in the early seventies with his Gretsch / Premier kit: but I think you will agree with me that until a few years ago the two up on a five pieces kit were mainly on the bass drum ...

Here is my Pearl Forum kit.
