Show Off your SONOR DRUMS.

They were engineered veneers made by Alpi, just about all the natural woods that Sonor offer now, with a few notable exceptions (Scandi Birch, American Walnut and a couple of others) are from them or similar, including bubinga, the Mkassar ebony etc. You can still buy those Tribal veneers directly from Alpi.

Nothing wrong with that and far more tree-friendly!

I know.. I am the one who revealed all this info more than a decade ago on the Sonormuseum.. but they did have some astonishing options that they don't have now.. Khaya Pyramide, Icebirch... and they were using the Genuine Bubinga for a period of that era.. . They also had the basic veneer like you see on the inside of the drums that they don't offer now.

Hey forum!

New member from Germany here, have been reading quietly by now, dropped a joke into the drummers jokes thread a couple of days ago and felt like starting to show off my gear today. More to come, will write an introduction as soon as my studio complex is built (which has priority atm) and might drop some pics into the DW show off these days. But let's start with my little crack baby

This is the most beautyful and best sounding snare drum I ever owned, really looking forward to move my stuff out of the living room (!) to the studio to give this awesome setup a real test - as soon as it's built, which is hopefully the case this year - after 1.5 yrs build time. Drums are sitting here occupying space for about 1 yr. Well, to be honest my wife doesn't mind and I think it's the very best type of room decoration I can imagine ?

Cheers, Markus

Yesterday and today I was able to play this beauty for the first time. It is stunning! I tuned it to a medium high pitch with quite some tension on the snare side head. No dampening, heads are the original ones. It offers a crazy precise sound - played in the dead center it is dry like Benjamin Franklin „Hawkeye“ Pierce likes his Martini, while moving more to the rim it gets more and more like singing a beautiful note. I tried it with various tensions on the batter - it's always the same effect. The snare wires react to even the smallest hits while not adding too much buzz to the rest of the kit. Side sticks - even played with the end of the stick on the head - always generate a full wooden tone from "click" over "clack" to "clock" - without generating any buzz, ring or what else. Dry as my dads humor.

I couldn't be any happier with any other snare drum

Beautiful drums.
Beautiful snare. Loved the M*A*S*H reference, I remember that scene from his drink request at the bar!

Mine is the Safari with 16in kick, 10in rack Tom and 14in floor all in black sparkle. I sub snare with a 14 x 5 1/2 Mapex Black Cat.
In this pic I have a Toca Bongo set which I play on certain gigs.
My kick pedal is an Iron Cobra 900S. Drum heads are: Snare Evans coated UV1, Toms, Evans Calftone and kick batter is Remo Pinstripe that is muted. Cymbals are:
69 Zilco heavy 18in ride with rivets, Sabian 20in
AAX Medium ride, Vintage 22in Zildjian Canada
ride.. medium ? 84 Sabian 14in crash. Hats are Sabian B8X crash .. I like bright sound. I also have a Dream 10in splash.
In addition I have a Zil 10in cheapie splash I use as a bottom hat in combo with the Dream for hats for small venues.. street gigs. Hardware is all Yamaha Crosstown Aluminum lightweight.
I also had the Player kit with 20in kick but I donated it to grand daughters school band in memory of my Bride of 57 years.
I’m a Sonor convert as sound, hardware and build quality of those two kits far surpass their reasonable price point !

I've sold a couple of snares, and the Blue Roots kit is for sale, all so that I can get an SQ2 kit this year.

Just made a drum set swap and picked up this beautiful Sonor Vintage Series kit . Some of you may recall I previously owned a Sonor Vintage Series kit in the discontinued Onyx finish. I was not able to find any add on drums so sold the Onyx kit . The Sonor Vintage Series was never far from my mind and I was determined to get another . I made the swap and now I have the kit I wanted in the finish I liked the most . I found a 10” Tom used and it is on its way . I also ordered the 5.75” x 14” matching snare as well . This will give me a 20/10/12/14 kit with matching snare .

My SQ1 kit is my baby.

But damn this little inexpensive AQX kit made of cheap poplar and small shells (16” kick, 10” Tom and 13” floor Tom) sounds killer.

Something about a kit this size that kinda refreshes you and gets you excited to post again and play something different.

I bought that snare recently . It is an pimprovement over the original version IMHO.
my band mates love this snare and I was shocked at how big and fat this snare can go when required . A really great snare drum .

Owning both the Beech and Brass BG 2.0 snares pretty much convinced me to sell off the the rest of my snare collection. Those 2 snares cover so much ground

I tell people that it's snare 2.0... it's just that good.. (wish i had gotten brass though)
