That's a sad story I'm a big sonor lover and own sonor drums never had any problem what so ever your kit should of not left the factory without being inspected first what happened to QA.

I wonder if this kit was rejected by QC and then someone quietly snuck it out? I'd be contacting whoever retailed it to find out what its actual history is.

It was from a big distributor in Nashville. I am guessing the distributor is in Nashville because that is also the location of the FedEx headquarters/hub. My guess to why it was there for so long is because this Sonor model has sold poorly.

The rust is one thing, but fouled bearing edges are a manufacturing problem. They should have never been allowed out of the factory so the mystery is how they were allowed to leave. Or, if they left in good condition, what happened to them between being made and being put in the warehouse.

I am very happy with my SQ1. No issues at all, although I read about the issues too. It sounds great and looks great. I do not know when it was manufactured, but this colour line is rather new, so I do not think my kit has been stored for years. I know Sonor as a very trustworthy brand. If there is something wrong they always find a solution for you, if you contact them.

I am happy to hear that. Unfortunately you cannot deal with Sonor directly, you have to go through the retailer. And Sonor is slow, especially now. I have had an 18” SQ2 floor tom on order for what will be one year next month. I am hoping to get it soon.
I think the mfg date might be stamped on the drums. It is definitely on the box

The boxes were factory sealed, that is all I can tell you

Yeah, if you got the new color then it can’t be that old. Hopefully Sonor has also improved their manufacturing since that first run of SQ1s

Proud owner of a Sonor Prolite here! I got it 2nd hand back in February and it's easily one of the best kits I've ever played. Wonderful tones from the toms and bass drum, nice creme white finish. And as an added bonus, it actually has a bass drum tom holder which I MUCH prefer to mounting the rack toms on stands. My first and probably not my last Sonor kit. Drum specs are:
22x17.5" bass drum
10x8", 12x9" rack toms
16x16", 18x16" floor toms (the 18" is from my Mapex Saturn kit)
10x3" Sonor Jungle Snare and 14x5.5 Tama Starclassic Brass Snare

I have a 3 piece red oyster Vintage series set that I bought at a discount because it was a used store demo. The ""use" was actually Benny Greb on a local clinic. Well he used the floor and kick, I opted not to buy the 10" he normally plays instead of the 13. It was also for sale as an add-on. Not a fan of 10s in general and this small drum went for the price of a full Pearl Export kit!! Thanks but no thanks. Anyhoo, i really love the vintage series and this wrap is just so darn yummy. I'm extremely happy with this purchase.

Yes it is, and I was on the lookout for a second hand one for ages as well... Then I got a good discount on a new one so bit the bullet.. Great snare!
