My favorite and go to snare for the past 7 years.
Also gigging it tonight!

Tama Metalworks 13x6.5
A little rough around the edges, but its been through Hell and back gig wise.

I sold the Canopus Zelkova and was able to get back some cash and the snare I really wanted on a Black Friday sale. It's a Hendrix Archetype stave walnut 14x6 with abalone inlay. The shell is pretty thin for a stave (1/4") with a neat feature being that the reinforcement rings are integrated. It comes with S-hoops, Fat cat snares and 3 position Trick throw off. Quality is outstanding. Sonically it's a glorious phat tone with that low fundamental that walnut provides. This is a keeper and will be used as the go to snare for my Gretsch Brooklyn kit. Feast thine eyes !! :)

Wow, that looks amazing, especially with the Brooklyns. Congrats.
Now I'm looking for one of those!

Nice of you to say. Thanks! Happy Holidays to you and your family. The Hendrix snares are really, really nice. They're not cheap but I feel the build quality, hardware, aesthetics and of course the sound, more than justify the price. If you keep your eye on reverb they turn up in some of the 15-20% off sales. There are numerous demos of them on youtube and on hendrixdrums.com

They have a demo of a stave walnut kit that is to die for.

Two snares to show off. One is my trusty DW Collector's 14"x5.5" snare (believe it's the all-birch model) and the other is a backup Mapex Armory 14" snare that I picked up at a GC for super cheap. I just keep it next to me on stage in case I go through a head (reso usually) during a set.

I have other drums, but these are the primary two drums I use.

That looks amazing! Looks like you got your 14x14 FT too. Looks nice with the 16x14.

I’ve never played a Zelkova, but I’ve got a hollow log maple snare, 13x6. What did you not like about it?

Revamped a DW solid shell I've had for a while. New hoops and tension rods.

I really like the new true pitch 50 rods. Never had one loosen up. The new hoops are a cross between die cast and triple flanged.

I played one at the local GC and my first impression was that it weighed a ton for a wood snare.

Not to be too simplistic but I just wasn't crazy about how it sounded. I took it in a trade with some cash for a Sonor Vintage Series kit I was selling. So another facet was that I had too much money tied up in it for my tastes and budget. My approach to drum ownership over the last few years was to buy, try, and flip. All the while only buying what I could resell at same price or even make a $100 or 2 on them. If it wasn't on sale or a screaming used deal. I wouldn't buy.

Bottom line is after all this buy/sell/packing etc., I ended up with what I feel are two stellar keeper kits and 4 really nice snares. I retired on January 1st. I'm happy as a clam with my stuff in the sig. I also have a 14x5.5 DW/Craviotto steambent maple and Mapex 14x5 Blk Panther Blk Widow snares. None of which I paid ANYTHING close to new prices for.

Sorry to be so long winded but to I wanted to put the Zelkova into the context of what I was trying to accomplish leading up to my retirement.

Cheers,
Todd

Here's a few of them.

My new Oriollo made under my specs . . .

Very nice.

Are these lugs 1-piece or 2-piece?
What’s the shell material and how’d you spec the pattern?

My 68 Ludwig Supra. Pleased how it came out but not the state I let it get to . It’s been in my closet over 20 years. Some haze and grime, no nicks or gouges, very light almost absent pitting , and only light surface rust in a few places . Complete tear down , re head, and clean and polish.
