show off your snare

Finished this one a couple of months ago.

Looks like some serious lug splay on that, some thicker lug gaskets may be needed.

Just got this yesterday. 8 X 14 Ludwig Keystone in Salmon Oyster Pearl.
I think I'll call it Beauty & The Beast.

Latest addition to the family is a custom ordered C&C 7.5x14 maple/gum snare with a dark blue finish and aged WMP inlay. S-hoops with their "Los Angeles" style bearing edge.

Here is my old Tama Rockatsr 14 x 6.5 chrome over steel snare. I cleaned and polished it up over the weekend. Looks pretty good for a 23 year old drum. I also installed a Boom Alley B.A.D. Knocker batter hoop on it.

My two. First one is a Pearl Free Floating Version 3, 8" in Maple Recent acquisition) Fantastic sounding snare.

Next up is my MK1 Pearl Free Floating 8" Brass. This has never been cleaned or had any love or attention in the 25 years that I have owned it. (Proper Punk Snare ;) ) Ridiculously loud & has a fantastic sound. Will cut through anything :) I am now going to attempt to restore it as I could never sell it.

I sold this many yr. ago, and just now got it back. 1988 Yamaha Tour Custom nothing fancy, but it's pretty ok.

I had a Royalstar set. 83 model I think. Your snare looks like the same as the snare on my kit. I really liked it too.

Wow, that is abused and neglected. Some May like the patina on the brass, but all the corrosion on the frame hoops and lugs should and could be dealt with. I would sand blast it and then find a nice powder coat colour and has someone spray it for you. Replanting would become pretty cost prohibitive.

The Mapex Exterminator I got with my Armory kit. 14"x6.5" of Birch & Walnut goodness.

I actually like the way that the brass has gone. Will completely strip it down & get it blasted & re-chromed. I "may" get the shell painted in Piano Black to match the rest of the kit or, leave it as is as a reminder lol

I got these Guru ovangkol wood hoops to try on my 13X7 Sonor Amboina Artisan Snare for Christmas from my wife. Thanks to Andy-can't say enough nice things about him. I had planned to have one of my daughters engrave and gold emboss the outside edges of the wood hoops a bit (so it matches the gold hardware), but I haven't been able to take them off to give to her and they are just so beautiful as they are. They sound awesome too!

I'm impressed to see those hoops on a non Guru drum. There's a famous story of Andy stonewalling JoJo Mayer at the 2012 (I think) London Drum Show when JoJo asked Andy if he would sell him a set of the ovangkol hoops. (Jojo was dismissive to Andy and his son at a prior event, so Andy returned the favor is the real reason IIRC) Funny how Andy will bend over backwards for a nobody like me, yet treated JoJo like he was a nuisance lol.

So consider yourself lucky Art. Andy originally didn't want to part them out like that. He really is an exceptional human being.

They are just lovely on toms, those ovangkol hoops. My Guru Origins....I asked Andy to provide me with full set of metal hoops in addition to the ovangkol hoops. (which required another set different length tension rods, not cheap) I wanted to be able to do an apples to apples comparison to hear exactly what these hoops do to the tone. The Ovangkol hoops really do complete the tone of my toms. It takes it from great sounding (with the metal hoops) and adds woodiness and subtle complexities. It really elevates and rounds out the tom sound for me. The metal hoops are a step down in terms of tone to my ear. Plus the look of those hoops is essential to the look of my kit. My kit looks almost stupid with metal hoops, I'm very biased.

Nice score Art!
