My son came over today to tune and play the Pearl Steel Shell snare drum the way he likes it and ended up putting a thicker O-ring on and said that was the sound he was looking for! It took a while to achieve the sound he was looking for.
But he said that steel drums are not his cup of tea he likes his Maple Pearl Master. But he'll use it for a while and probably go back to his favorite.
So after he set it up and tuned it I played it and truthfully I didn't care for it at all... I love my Superphonic!
Although he tunes his snares on the high side and tight... I don't like that I tune my low and I love to hear the sound of the snare. We're all different.
But hey for 10 bucks it's like money in the bank. He doesn't care if I sell it or keep it for a decoration and hey if I need money one day I might just sell it. I have two snares and he also has two snares it's not like we don't have any thing to switch around with but he gave it a try and he wasn't a fan.
He left it on his stand so he might play it a few more times until he really misses his Pearl Master.
I noticed the sound is very different than a Superphonic and I guess that's because it's two different metals.
