My mom found this at a thrift store many years ago. I rarely use it or any maraca but still, I've got it. For probably two years I gigged the Tama cocktail jam as a two piece with neither tom so I stuck this maraca in the front mounting bracket primarily to stop it from rattling but also for looks, I guess. Funny part is... To stop metal from rattling I would clamp and instrument intended to rattle. I literally never thought about that until I started typing this.

Not a maraca but an honorable mention since it's a shaker, also doesn't really get used but my mom got it for me when she visited Mexico one time.

Is it my eyes or are they different sizes
You are correct. I had two matched pairs ..... and wound up giving one of each to a buddy drummer/percussionist friend of mine. Larger one is probably close to 60 years old. Smaller one's maybe 40.

I have a couple Meinl maracas and used them a lot in my previous band. They're loud and sounded great. I also played some LP maracas. They were likewise very nice.

I'm 100% self taught regarding hand percussion and picked up a lot of bad habits. I never became comfortable playing two maracas together. What I'd do is just play one in my dominant hand (right hand) and use my left hand as kind of an impact surface to occasionally change the sound of the maraca. Nobody complained. Nobody knew I was doing it wrong. :)
