Send us your broken cymbals!

My 19 year old son built himself a cymbal lathe from scratch using parts from an old barn, scrap wood and a new motor. It works beautifully and he's on the hunt for broken cymbals. He visited the Sabian factory about 10 years ago and they treated him like a rock star and he's ever since been intrigued with the process. We'd gladly pay for shipping if you happen to have any. We live outside Baltimore, MD near the PA line.
Thx
Mike

That sounds like 1) fun and 2) a way to make a little cash cutting-down cymbals with edge cracks. With experimentation and experience, he can offer re-lathing service, where the cymbal's sound can be altered dramatically. It could also lead to a position with Sabian or Zildjian. :)

Good luck to him!

He doesn't feel like he's quite at a level yet to charge anyone. He's also experimenting with bleach/vinegar/salt and coming up with all kinds of interesting finishes. Cool stuff indeed.
