I think Schillinger's rhythm carried most of his compositions. His melodies and harmonies were pretty suspect, and the best musicians/singers had difficulties signing them in tune or otherwise.

His math approach is so so. I like the way he derived the Charleston with is binomial Theorem, but I suspect that its based on a tresilo or 3vs4 polyrhythm rather than some rigid subdivision of 8. However, it is rather intuitive, I kind of stumbled on to something similar playing around with permutations of 12/8 clave cross rhythms, though now I never play clave in a 12/8 as it is much better in a polyrhythm framework.
