Sabian equivalent to Z Customs.

Hi guys.

Firstly I know someone will say, 'if you like the Z Customs then buy those' but i'm really into trying all brands first to see whats on offer.

So i'm just after what people think the Sabian equivalent to the Zildjian Z Customs are?

I'm sure there is no direct Sabian line that resembles the Z Customs but i'm just after something that sounds as near to them as possible, in your opinion.

I've had a look around and i've searched but I couldn't find any definite answer.

Cheers

No mate it's good you asked this question. There is in fact a direct equivelent. IE heavy shiny cymbals for metal, they are either the AA metal x or the AAX metal. Personally i prefer the AAX metal but that's just me. According to other drummers on here they're a lot more sensitive than z customs and after what's just happened to me i would definetly recccomend you buy these over the z customs any day. Cheaper, too.

if you're after raw power - APX - their a modified B8 bronze that - well, think of the sonic boom of a fighter jet!
if your looking for something a little more musical - AAX - great cut while still maintaining a nice sound...
hope this helps, good hunting!

Sorry to regurgitate, but this is precisely the sentiment I had. APX are unmatched in the Sabian catalog in terms of LOUD cymbals with tons of high end. However, the AAX are more complex than the APX and consequently more musical.

You make a great point Eddie. I think these would be the most closely matched to Z Customs out right now.

I do know however, that Sabian made Leapord Crashes. These were heavier, and unlathed much like the older Z Customs that had the circular stamped hammering on them. I know that Sabian still has the Leapord Ride in their current line up, but I believe the Leapord Crashes are discontinued.

To my ear, nothing else sounds like the Z Customs.

While I no longer use Z Custom crashes, I did use them for years and years, and I never found a crash that had THAT sound.

Sabian AAX metal and others may also be great for loud playing, but I don't think they sound any where near the "same."
