I had bought one of these back in February. I put it on the drum and hated it. At that time I wasn't really cranking it down too much and it was a really horrible sounding head. After beating the hell out of an Ambassador in 3 hours I decided to try the Emperor X again. I put it on and cranked it down super tight and the head just came to life. It's crisp, loud and doesn't kill all the desirable overtones and ring. And at 20 mil thick plus the 5 mil sound control dot, it's damn near indestructable. AND the coating doesn't come off easily.
I was surprised.
Emperor X is the way to go for heavy hitters.
 
It is for hard hitters, it's the thickest head on the market I believe.

I want to try putting emperor x's on all toms, it would sound so round and smooth, but very dead. Probably more pleasing to the non-drummers.

it's a snare head only....
 
This head is incredible! Awesome for hard rock. Nearly indestructable.
