Refinishing drum hardware

I got a Tama Imperialstar for Christmas. Ive been playing for about 3 years on an OSP DD502 Digital Drumset, and was hoping to get enough money for an acoustic kit this Christmas, when I got it as a suprise. The drums sound very nice, and the Meinl HCS cymbals are decent but not exactly what I planned on getting, but thats not the point. I'm a big fan of black hardware, but the Imperialstar is only chrome. Is it possible to have a proffessional refinish the rims and lugs to black? And if so, does anyone know how much that would cost? I dont wanna try it myself and screw it up. Any suggestions?

Drum specs:
22x18 Bass
14x5.5 Snare
12x9 Tom
13x10 Tom
16x16 Floor Tom
Meinl HCS Cymbals:
14" HiHats
16" Crash
20" Ride
10" Splash

I don't have a guess on how much it would cost to have them powder coated, but do yourself a favor and don't attempt anything on your own. You will only ruin a new drum set.

They don't mention it in the video but would all of the chrome have to come off. They say down to bare metal??? Then buy a compressor etc etc.

It will stick to chrome as long as you clean it like they say in the vid.
I use a subcontractor that Powder Coates auto parts for my shop with this product.
Chrome plating is a form of metal that powder Coat will stick to.
If it conducts electricity it will stick.

Open the yellow pages in your neighborhood and look for coatings specialists who do powdercoating. It will cost probably around $200 to do a kit worth of hoops and lugs and BD legs etc....

Don't even think about trying this at home unless you know what you are doing and have a proper oven to bake them in...an oven that will maintain an electrical charge in the parts while they are baking...which your current oven will not.

Once the powder is applied you don't need the electrical charge.
You bake it in a normal oven at 400 degrees F.

Powder coating is pretty common process for motor cycles and industrial machinery, so like Crazy8 said, just look in the phone book. They probably won't say they do drums in their ad, but the process is the same.

Paint will not work. It will just chip off and look terrible quickly. You want to do the powder coating.

Thanks for the advice. Ill probably end up looking for someone who does powder coating, and though its only an estimate, $200 sounds reasonable. I know I'll definitely mess it up if I try myself. Thanks guys.
