Quick response needed. Worth it?

These just popped up on FB...Looking at getting all of this for $140. My thoughts are replacing the Tama and SP hi hat and snare stands with these Pearl's on the export set I just got for my boy. A second throne would be nice so I wouldn't have to adjust when my boy and I switch. Figure I could recoup my investment easily with a little cleanup unless I decide to keep them and build a 2nd kit. Opinions?

Do it. $140 for a whole kit, a quality one at that, definitely. I don't see a snare though. Maybe it's under all the junk in back.

Hopefully you scored these !!!

Scored...no snare but I can easily acquire one. Gonna start cleaning them up tomorrow. What's the best way to get rust of some of the hardware? Some kind of soaking? Flitz? Other ideas?

So here's the entire haul.
.Pork Pie Throne silver glitter/Zebra...looks brand new
Mapex snare stand
Pearl hi hat stand
14" Paiste 502 hi hats in VGC
22 x 18 bass drum, Remo Weather King Powerstroke 3 batter head
12",13" rack Tom's
16" floor tom....all Tom's have Evan's ec2 batters over what looks to be the original Pearl protone resos. All the Evan's heads are in good shape.
Will need to take the hi hat stand apart to clean and try and get the rust off the chain.
Already tried the Paiste hi hats on my boys kit but the Meinl HCS sound much better.
The shells I will take apart and clean all the hardware. Just not sure now if I will build this as a second kit or not. If I do I won't throw alot of $$ into it since it will be going in the garage. If I decide not to I'm pretty sure I'll recoup my $$ and have the throne to keep. Might keep the floor tom to add to my boy's kit. All in all a good haul.

I figure if I decide to create a 2nd kit I should be able to do it for another $100-150 if I go full Frankenstein mode rather than trying to get all Pearl hardware. To make a kit I'll need a snare, 1 tom arm, 2 cymbal stands, a crash, a ride, and a high hat clutch. Now the challenge will be to try and find decent stuff at a bargain. I'm just going to go ahead and create a second kit for the garage and either I'll play it, or try to find a deserving youngster and give him a deal. It should also be a good learning experience for me breaking these down completely since I've been out of the drumming life for so long.
Thanks to all who responded quickly as I didn't think these would go unsold for very long.

Since you don't like the Paistes, and you have another set of hats, try hybriding them. They might compliment each other nicely, and you may end up with 2 pleasing sounding sets of hats.

Don't think that will work. Meinls are 13", Paistes are 14".

Oh okay, nevermind.

If anything, you still have a set of crappy hats to jam along with your kid. That's priceless. My kid has no musical interest. What I would give...

Good purchase. There are lots of used snare drums to choose from. Wet alumimum foil polishes chrome. I like Meinl HCS hi hats.

So now that I've bought my son a kit I've got the bug. I'm now looking at restoring these shells and going the Frankenstein route to complete the kit for as little $$ as possible since they'll be staying in the garage should I decide to keep them. My main concern is the rack toms. The kit only came with 1 tom arm which doesn't even have a name. It extends into the bass drum cavity and tom cavity as well. Can I just use any tom arms as long as they are 7/8" (am I right?) and should I be looking for a certain length? I'm just trying to find the cheapest fix that is still functional; so basically any "generic" tom arm that will work. How long should these tom arms be? The one it came with is about a foot long but I don't think I need to extend that far into the cavity? I'm going to start breaking down the shells to clean all parts and will then decide if I'm going to redo them with a wrap or stain. Anyone have any idea of their age? I'm thinking 80's? Thanks in advance for any responses.

The toms are pretty deep. Just set up one tom for your son and have him play the set. You might have to extend the arm further and angle the tom towards him if he's not tall, so if it's just $2 more, don't save money on the length of the arm. 7/8" is Pearl's standard, so it should work.
As you're trying to save money, I'd keep the wrap as it is. Wraps can get very expensive and staining might not come out as expected. Removing the wrap can also be a hassle. I'd rather put that time and money towards finding good add-ons for cheap.

I've often had success with the wet “tin foil” technique.
How about using one Tom and either putting it in a snare stand or buying a cheap multiclamp and mounting it from a cymbal stand?
I wouldn’t recommend staining the kit, it’s a lot of work and there’s no guarantee that the outer plys of the drums have pleasing grain or even match in colour as they were made to be wrapped and never seen.
as for wrapping, how about a thin vinyl film over the top of what’s currently on there? I’ve toyed with the idea of detaching the hardware from a shell and seeing what a car wrapping specialist could do if I ever got a shell set cheap enough, or I’m sure there’s thin wraps designed for stuff like kitchen unit doors etc that would work.

It will actually be for me if I decide to keep it as I just finished completing a export kit for my son so I'm definitely going to need another tom arm. Once I get all the hardware off I'll have a better idea of the shell wrap condition. I think I can refinish either way for about $75 and I've got the time right now.

The research I've done tells me I can do a vinyl wrap or refinish for about $75. Once I get the hardware off I'll decide. If the wrap is only held on by adhesive at the seam and the grain is good, I'll refinish. Otherwise, I'll just wrap them. In the meantime I'm in search mode on what I still need to complete the kit. Its gonna be an adventure. I've found a SP tom arm at MF for $12...just trying to make sure they will work.
