Q Drum Co.

Copper and brass as well as stainless and aluminum shelled drums aren't anything new actually.Barry actually built the first aluminum snares in 1915.Paiste is famous for their bronze drum kits, one which Danny Carey plays as well as Carl Palmer.

Spizzichino and the French company Asba built stainless as well as copper drum kits in the 60's/70's,.Ludwig is famous for their stainless drums.

As far as that guys playing, yeah,he can play ,but WAY too hard for me.He's got to go through cymbals, sticks and heads like there's no tomorrow.

yes, but show me where you can find those anywhere now? very rare imo. sure you can buy an old pitted Ludwig stainless from the 70's on craigslist or spend 5 g's to buy a new one. This company is also putting wood re-rings in which I think is pretty interesting.

There's a company called Echo Custom drums in the UK who specialise making aluminium and copper shelled kits, plus most other metals you could think of if you've got the money.

They've reviewed very well in the the UK and are getting a lot of good feedback.

amazing drums...had my kit about 3 months now. by far the best kit ive owned, and I have had many.

Yes! I heard Echo drums up close and personal at the London Drum Show and they definitely turned my head. I just remember really, really liking them. I'd buy a set of those drums. I heard the anodized aluminum and brass shelled toms. Commanding tone, as warm as it comes. I thought the brass sounded a little better, but not by much. The aluminum was easily as good. I thought that they would make an excellent gigging set. Tough and gorgeous sounding.

What shells did you get?

Mahogany/Poplar, I purchased mine from lonestar in texas. I think that is the only shop that is carrying stock at this point in the U.S. If I would have waited another month the copper kit they received would have been mine! I've never played copper drums, but I would have bought them on the spot just for the look alone. Anyways, couldn't be happier but I will pull the trigger on a Q snare real soon!

I'm liking this one a lot

Hi all. I had the privilege of some playing time with a super sweet 14 x 8 Q copper snare today. I was there to try out the Zildjian Kerope's (20" sounded best to me) which happened to be set up with a beautiful Q cooper kit. I'm a bop kit kind of guy, so the sizes wouldn't be my first choice (24 / 13 / 16, I think), but man these drums are soooo sweet and the workmanship is absolutely top notch. I didn't really get to play the kit (heads tuned way too low, so much so that I didn't bother to hit the toms more than once or twice. No bass drum pedal either...). BUT, the snare was outstanding. Loads of body, super articulate, wonderful crack n pop. Pretty expensive, but definitely worth the investment. For Bonham types who want a change from a Supra (not saying you need to mind) this would be killer. I would personally love to hear a 14 x 5, I think I would have to buy it judging from this beaut. The kit looked sensational. I'm sure that the collectors out there will be on to these custom drums. If you want something special check em out.

Keller makes good shalls but other companies make great shells as well, like Eames,C & C,Vaughncraft,Stone Custom,DW,Ludwig and a few others as well. Then there's stave, segmented amd steambent shells as well, made by custom drum builders like Guru.

So Keller does make good shells, but certainly, not the best there is.

Most custom companies get their raw shells from keller made to order.
Actually, most (that don't make their own) buy off the shelf Keller shells. A few get them made to order (i.e Gretsch). Keller make good shells. In terms of global ply shell standards, Keller occupy a middle to upper position, & are generally very consistent. You can get better ply shells in terms of constructional quality & performance, but you'll be paying more for them. With correct/appropriate edges & assembly/finishing, you can make a kit using Keller shells that competes strongly with the higher end offering from larger ply drum companies.

I think they do. Its an opinion. Most custom companies get their raw shells from keller made to order. Again, its an opinion. Slow your roll.

Slow my roll?....I think it's just fine thanks. And yes,It's an opinion, but not a fact, but you're perfectly entitled to that ...opinion.And as indicated above by Keep it simple, someone in the know, they are NOT custom made to order, but stock items, off the shelf, and altered by "custom" drum parts hangers/finishers.Keller won't build custom shells, till you order them in very big numbers. Some small custom builders barely meet the 40 piece minimum order rom Keller, and usually just buy off of Ebay.

once again, thats an opinion. I know that the guy that makes my drums orders the shells to order. Why are there so many people that just want to argue and fight on here? Peace out

The argue and fight thing is on a different site. This is an internatinal drum forum, and when you post here, especially if it's incorrect info, you're going to get called on it.plain and simple. There's no fighting here, but if that's how YOU percieve it,then so be it.I posted 100% correct information, which is verifiable on the Keller drum shell website. There are FACTS,not my opinion concerning the sale of Keller products..There's a difference between the two.

So your Qdrum guy, must buy lots of shells from Keller,if he contends his shells, aren't off the shelf product, and his ply lay up is not standard Keller.
