Purely lustfull purchase?

Speaking of, I stopped at a pawn shop on the way to this gig. A Gibson Flying V just came out. It's not the '58 reissue I want, but I gave in to the temptation anyway.

I often daydream about winning the lottery, and what would I get for gear if i had no budget. Its a harmless little exercise, i don't get all caught up in it, and I always say that every once in a while, spending $2 on a lottery ticket gives me license to daydream for a couple of hours...

Funny thing is that before I bought any new drum gear, I'd buy a Rickenbacker for my bass player. Were money no object.
(He had them in the past, had to sell them for various reasons, and has been pining for them ever since. I've never had an attachment to a specific piece of gear like that. I'd love for him to have one once again.)

Funny you mention this. When it gets really big I'll buy a ticket, but I don't look at it for a few weeks. That, just so I can ponder what if...

I also think more of what I would buy for other people I know. That alone probably means I'll never win.

I pulled the trigger on a Microtech OTF, so that's off the bucket list.
I‘ve been window shopping Microtechs for 20 years it seems. The internet isn‘t too bad, but when I handle one in person it’s difficult to not buy it. I was having trouble relating to this thread until I saw this post.

I do the same thing, and often times, I can't really justify a ton of gear even in that situation as well...I fantasize more about where I would put my current gear, and not having to work so much so I can enjoy my current gear

Right now, it's coming to the realization that I'll probably never have the 50's car I have always wanted since I was old enough to drive. I love cars from 1949-54. I'm constantly looking out for the right one. The problem is, I'm not a mechanic, so fixing any little or big thing that goes wrong could turn into a money pit, because I probably couldn't do it myself. I watch YT videos of guys who pull cars out of junkyards and wooded areas that haven't run in forty years, and within two days, they've got them running again. I'm envious.

yeah...that is why I refuse to get into cars....I would ruin any classic car that I got a hold of

Plus, I'd never hear the end of it from the Mrs.

"Why did you buy that piece of junk?"

"It's a classic Studebaker!"

"It's an expensive piece of crap! A money pit. Every time you drive it, something goes wrong."

I think a car thing is doable if you set aside a budget. And if what you want can't be purchased and maintained with that budget then yeah it's probably not a good idea. If you have a mechanic that you trust, or make friends with some local car guys who you can rely on, you might be able to find yourself in a better position than you thought, a more reliable car and more reliable feedback.

I'm sure you guys have gone through this thought process and the options.

I'm a sucker for a good deal on something awesome. If it's not a good deal, I really have to think about it.

Working at the ol' drum shop has gotten me some pretty killer gear, of which I have to give my 6.5x14 Dunnett Titanium the crown. I use it all the time.

I did also find a BAE 1073MPL mic pre at a pawn shop, and talked them down to $425. Full price is like 1100 bucks. It's now my primary vocal recording mic pre. Sounds absolutely incredible.

The most lustful purchase I've ever made in my drum life was my custom-built Savage 7x14 Tama Bell Brass sorta-replica. It's a got dang monster of a snare drum. And, hopefully, the most expensive drum I ever buy at $1800.

However, the most lustful purchase I've ever made as a musician was the 2001 Martin D28 Marquis I bought from an assistant manager when I worked at (and helped open) the Guitar Center across the street from Berklee. (599, win win win!) It was offered to me for what GC was going to give Jordan, which was 2500 bucks. Bastard let me borrow it for a couple days, just to see whether or not it was a good fit. The intonation is phenomenal, so you can play all the way up at the fourteenth fret without having to worry about chords sounding bad. And the sound opens up over the course of the first twenty minutes you play it, so it only inspires you to play it more. It's one of those instruments that has the music within it, and brings the music out of you. It's my dream acoustic. It comes with me on road trips. It has traveled with me across like thirty of these United States. Honestly I think I'd sell my drums before I sell that guitar.

I should really play it more...

Time to trade HER in on a new model, lol.

Where will you be? I’d love to have lunch
Doing a tour of Texas so Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Galveston and then couple days in New Orleans with a whole lot of driving! 5 hour drive to New Orleans. That's like driving to the middle of Scotland from my house and I'm in the middle of England.

Happy to meet up with any of you guys for a bite to eat or if you're playing around those parts when I'm there give me a shout. I realise the vastness of the state never mind the country compared to my drizzly island west of Ireland makes meeting up slightly difficult lol.

Yeah...or I'll think about a vehicle that would accommodate stuff better, or my own small trailer thst I could take any combination of things and choose what I want, appropriate for the venue. (and have a riser when I wanted one, lol)

Well, dreaming is cheap, at least

When is your trip scheduled for ?

This isn't a what's your latest purchase post. I'm not in the market for anything. I'm just browsing ebay and I see this bronze 6.5x13 Dunnett snaredrum for 1275. I'm in lust immediately. Now..i don't have unlimited funds or the drum would be on its way already. Have any of you seen a piece of gear..new..vintage..out of circulation etc where you just flipped more than usual?. I need to talk myself out of this but it's on my mind nearly all day long. I'm a fan of 13" snaredrums (some of them) not all but this one of them where I'm near beside myself. I could really use input where I'm not alone on a lustful purchase. I'm not set up for PayPal (good thing) but I haven't felt this in a long time. Please someone tell me you owned one and it sounded horrible. 😃
This weekend they had a Roland E-kit with the TD-50 module, digital hats, digital snare, digital ride, 4 toms (all acoustic sizes) and double bass, with massively good pedals and hi hat stand, used for $ 4500... I thought it would have been the steal of the century for all you get ( I can't remember how many cymbals but I think it was at least 2 more after hi hats and 18 inch ride. I don't need another drumset ( I have 4) but I wanted that one so bad. It was basically like the kit in this video but with 4 toms and a double bass, AND the TD50 module instead of the TD27.:

Now tell me that doesn't sound good enough to record, and it is A LOT of fun to play.
well I am willing to get rid of 3 of my kits to buy that...(the one with the double bass).

That really is a steal (if not a scam of course).

So...did you buy it?
