Post your Gig Pics

Played for some fancy folks at a winery in Paso Robles, CA tonight. I’m a few gigs in now with my return to coated Ambassadors following a long hiatus. Feels like home or baby bear’s porridge.

Brought my big boy 24” (x 14” depth) bass drum out for the hit. What a pleasant sound that drum makes! Thick and juicy + a great blend of articulation and roundness. Yummy.

Great pics, everyone! I truly enjoy seeing all the different venues and gig setups. Here’s my latest, from tonight’s gig. We were back over in Paso Robles on the central coast of Cali. Beautiful place.

A slightly less glamourous venue, but a lot of fun: my organization hosted Business After Hours for our community leaders and businesses last night. My three-piece originals band played soft music in English and Spanish as folks mingled, ate tacos, and sipped drinks. We took home $125 each for about 90 minutes of playing. Not too shabby. I usually bring out the Ludwig Standards for lower-volume gigs like these and they were a lot of fun to play.

Indeed. On this kit I use the Pearl CHB75CA Bass Drum Hoop Mount Cymbal Holder. It cuts down on stands and totally fits the kit's vibe. I wish I could use it on the Tama kit, but the wrap on the hoops causes it to slip and slide.

Third night in a row with the new True Sonic snare and 602 hats. Rich people private event. Playing all the drum forum favorites - Brown Eyed Girl, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Margaritaville, etc…

Two gigs this weekend up on the lake - my last two with this cover band for the foreseeable future. I'm slimming down to one band with very modest time commitments for reasons.

Anyways, nice hot days with some nice hot dancers.20240831_145353.jpg20240831_145358.jpg

At the second gig, the winery owner dressed up in her finest 60s attire, grabbed a glass of the grape, and became our backup dancer.

Not the most artistically demanding gig ever, but certainly a lot of work, and pay to match. I will miss the paydays, but I won't miss the pace!

Welp, the band had its change-over gig last night. We are now officially Calaverdes. Pretty solid; although I feel like I have played better, the crowd loved it. When we've played this location in the past, the band would face the park, which is a natural amphitheater. This time, they had us set up facing the street where there was a beer garden (but no overhead cover or places to sit). That was kind of mid, but we still had fun. We had people who wanted to sit in the park, sit in the park, and we treated it like a show in the round.

Wow, I would think that would be too much weight for a hoop. I guess if it's straight-up-and-down and not hanging off the side It's probably not bad. Is that an AAX Omni? I have one and love it.
