Playing accents

I ran into problems on the very first bar. šŸ˜„

I'm probably overthinking it, but here's my confusion. The first strokes are D t u t. D ends low so t naturally follows. t ends low so u naturally follows also. But then u ends high which is then followed by t which starts low. What happens to the stick in between? How do you then play a tap when your stick is high

You were probably thinking in terms of single handed notes (as in Toddā€™s post). Look at Toddā€™s post (from Accent on Accents) - it follows your line of thinking because it isolates one hand at a time. Practice the exercises he posted first (using one hand only). Then practice my exercises, which utilize an alternated sticking.

When using an alternated sticking, remember that the next ā€œRā€ (or L) is two notes away.

Let me know if this helps.

Right, right! That was exactly the issue. And you had said that already. I often need the simplest things repeated 2, 3, 4 or more times before they sink in. šŸ„µ

And of course, thanks again. (y)(y)
