Perth Western Australian Local Music store price comparing

Hi, all. I'm just curious about the price difference in some of my local music stores. In park piano, the Zildjian cymbals appear to be way too expensive, here is the link:http://www.musicpark.com.au/Zildjian.htm
And the price in Kosmic sound appeared to be at least half price cheaper than Park Piano. here is the link: http://www.kosmic.com.au/drum/cymbals/brand/brand-zildjian/
I just want to know are there any difference between them like the quality, and which year it was made. Here is a example of the two price comparison between the two store---
Zildjian A custom Rezo Hi-hats pair $839.99 rrp in Park Pinao
And they made a mistake in this link-http://www.musicpark.com.au/Graphics/Specials/DRUM%20SPECIALS.htm,
it says all Sabians up to 50% off, and AAX 20" STAGE RIDE. WAS $229. NOW $279.

Zildjian A custom Rezo Hi-hats pair $429.99 rrp in Kosmic(this cymbal is not listed on the internet, but i saw it in the store the other day)
Which store shall i trust? P.S one time Kosmic gave me a wrong cymbal

As a fellow West Aussie I can tell you the park music store website hasnt been updated for years and you can pretty much Ignore the prices on it.

The store itself used to have ( I have not been there for ages) a massive range of cymbals and did have a rack of second hand "high end" stock.

Kosmic used to have a good supply but not so much now as before.

Perth shops tend to cover 2 distinct markets...the entry / intermediate end and the intermediate / high end.

I dont know where abouts you live but Midland Music Mart, Soundcenter Morley (used to have great deals on high end stuff, but now stocks things like Paiste PST's etc) and Joondalup Music tend to cater for those starting out.

Park Center have a great variety but a dead web page, Mega Music have a lot of high end.

At Large is outrageously expensive as is Zenith and Concept.

All shops are keen to move stock at this time of year ( end of financial year) so doesnt hurt to visit some and see if there are some deals....moreso itsgood to "hear" the stuff you think you like in person. Get the store guy to play some for you and stand in front / side etc to get a "different perspective" to that you get behind the set.

Check Gumtree often, there is usually a range of cymbals up for sale...recently there was a set of 4 Zildjian K's for 600 bucks.

Having said all that I have the feeling you are rushing a bit. Although I gather you play intensively I dont think you have been playing long enough to "know your sound".... and work out the tuning you like of your shells and the kind of cymbal sound that enhances that tuning before you run out and pay big bucks on pies.

Dont become stuck on one brand, or fall for buying a "sonically tumed" set ( that usually means a set of cymbals cut from the same sheet of brass / bronze)

I have Paiste, Meinl, Zildjian, Sabian, Bosphorus and Istanbul Agop and they complement each other nicely.

Good luck and be patient, its a lot of money to shell out only to find you dont like them later !!

Heres a few quick examples ( NOT RECOMMENDATIONS >>>I AM NOT TELLING YOU TO BUY THEM) off gumtree

zildjian custom k 19" China
$150.00

Zildjian new beat hi hats 14"
$260.00

If you are interested in any I am on the cusp of selling some of my "old" cymbals on Gumtree but if you are interested in any I can hold over any that you want to look at. I havent thought much about prices but would do a "lower price" for a board member

Items include Paiste Alpha "Rock" 20" ride (bright sounding, very washy)
Sabian XS20 medium ride ( logos look crappy but sound is fine)
Istanbul Agop "Alchemy" 14" hats ( hand made Turkish cymbals,
"bright" sound

Hi H

I dont have my cymbals on Gumtree yet

Here is WA gumtrees Drum section address
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-percussion-drums/wa/c18610l3008845

I do have a 20" Sabian HH China I am thinking of selling purely because it doesnt really match my kits "sound" in terms of tuning and my choice of Cymbals.

It will be expensive though as its a high end bit of gear (RRP in shops of $500) so I would likely list it at $300 - $350 as its largely been unplayed.

Here is a sample on "mycymbal.com" which is a good site for getting an idea of different cymbal sounds, keeping in mind the sounds you here online are not exactly how they would sound at home.... but its good for comparing cymbal types, brands and sizes.

Heres the HH ( Hand Hammered) Sabian
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZcDQI6W_J0

As for wanting splashes and chinas it depends what size you want, and the type of sound you prefer ( bright, dark, washy, closed etc)

That my cymbal website is a good place to get an idea of different "sounds" available.
For example here is a comparison between a 12inch and 16 inch china

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTWJep6G51g

I am happy to keep an eye out if you let me know the sound / sizes you prefer...and indeed your budget.

Cheers
Wombat

No problems about my China...I am undecided about selling it anyway.

What cymbals do you currently have ? and, as I asked before what sizes of splash/ china do you prefer and how much do you want to spend on them individually or together.

Hers a couple more from gumtree...I have focused on a cheaper price...they can be very expensive ......

Zildjian oriental china trash 18'' $160.00
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/padbury/percussion-drums/zildjian-oriental-china-trash-18-/1047499535

Zildjian 12" custom splash cymbal $75
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/huntingdale/percussion-drums/zildjian-12-custom-splash-cymbal/1046276359

on Ebay there is a Wuhan 12 Inch China & 10 Inch Splash Cymbal bidding cuuently at $31 for both together plus an estimate of around $13 postage

My current cymbals are Zildjian A custom Rezo hat 14, Rezo crash 18, Projection crash 19 and Medium ride 20, these four are the one that i use the most, i own a splash but i don't like it too much, it's a Zildjian A custom 10 splash(i should have got the standard A splash 10). The size i want for splash is a 10, for China i don't know, as long as i like the sound, I've seen these two ads already, is the Zildjian custom splash a A custom splash or different ones, thanks

If you look at the picture of the splash it says Z custom

Here is a crappy youtube clip of one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtxrJ1GX8gY
Keep in mind its being played by a nylon tipped stick which will highlight the brightness and stick definition.

Given cymbals have a tendency to have differces in sound for the same brand / type (some more than others) it is always best to play a cymbal before buying

As for the A vs A rezo for mine the A rezo has a brighter more resonant (as the "reso" name implies ) sound, the A sounds more subdued to me.

Maybee check out the Wuhans on EBay ie type their names into you tube ( individual names, not names together) and you will get an idea.

The Wuhans I have heard tend to be very "bright" and trashy in sound

cheers
