Paiste Big Beat!!

Holy cow! I first picked up a 22" Big Beat a couple months ago and have been really loving it for literally everything. I still change up my cymbals...just cuz I can, but these things really are ridiculously versatile. They do loud, soft, everything in between without being obnoxious. Almost like they are pre-EQd...

I wasn't too keen on them when they first came out. They seemed a little too thin, soft, mellow, whatever... They record absolutely beautifully. They may sound like they don't have much presence when playing, but they seem to sit perfectly in the mix without your ear going right to them.

I've been obsessing with completing the set since I picked up the 22". I have since acquired the 16" hats...yeah, still not fully on board with the 15" hats. I got the 16" hats a couple weeks ago...just in time to get used to them before a gig where we were the house band for a local fund raiser. With a bunch of different guys sitting in, these cymbals always sounded great.

I'll try to find a video and post it in the "My Playing" section...

No "Which cymbal should I buy?" or anything like that here, just maybe keep an open mind about cymbal sounds. What may not do it for at one point, fast-forward a year or so, and your obsessing about them. Dang, Paiste really nailed it with this series!

I've wanted Paiste to make a darker heavily hammered B8 cymbal for decades, I think they are a perfect companion to the 602 "M.E's"!

Well, I have one of the "sets" (24, 20, 18, 15) and I agree that they're great! Very versatile and lush. I'm selling them because I have too many cymbals now, but they are sweet as anything.

When i first saw that vid i thought 'those 602 Modern Essentials sound amazing', only to spot the darker hammering and logo's a minute later and went 'those aren't 602's...'.
Was blown away that those were the Big Beats. The regular 2002's sound too clean for me, but the Big Beats really caught my ear. Was in a post-grunge rock band a few years ago and was contemplating if i should get Big Beats to compliment the sound of the band. Never got around to it since i left the band early 2019 hehe

I'm a believer. I have the rest of the set to go with the pictured ride.

How does the 24" compare to the 22"? Is it washier than the 22"? I already have two 24" rides (Giant Beat and Classic 602) and wanted something a little more manageable for most gigs when I got my 22". One one hand, I feel I have most bases covered with what I have.
Just wondering if I should lust after the 24" in this model as well.
There's just something about 24" rides...

I've never done a comparison, so I can't give you any valid information. I can say the 24 can be washy, but to my ears, it cleans up well when you back off a bit.

I agree 24" rides are certainly sexy.

Love the look and sound of this line. The only thing stopping be from buying one is I will end up selling all my Byzances and switch over to them. Really trying hard to keep one set of pies for a year but its so hard to do 😆

This line, and the 602 ME's, have really caught my attention. I've always wished their classic lines, especially 602's, could be just a tad richer (the thinner 2002's are just right for me).
The 602 ME's sound heavenly in Paiste's samples, but don't cut it for me on demoes recorded with an entire drum kit. This line, on the polar opposite, sounds clangy to me on its own, but I really like how it blends with other drums. Almost like my experience with A Zildjian and, God forbid, the Classic 602 line.
I'd really like to see how it blends with my Paiste collection, which consists of a 505 and a 602 (and still growing). I'd like to endorse them if I ever get known for playing drums, since Paiste is really underappreciated here in China...

Exactly why I mix the 602 Classic and MEs 20 and 18 602 Classic and ME crash with ME hh, ride and china.

They look as good as they sound....i'd recommend getting a gold sparkle kit to compliment them.
Good luck completing the set!
