Other great drummers on Beatles tunes

Push pull stroke

I’m just idly wondering what guys like Vinnie or Weckl or Buddy would have done with some of Ringo’s more strange drum parts, if they had been the original drummer. Like “Come Together”, for instance

had a hunch it happened..

not exactly what you asked but.. Tony Williams Blackbird migh be worth a listen +/-

My intuition is Buddy would be a terrible match for the beetles. I don't think they'd mesh one bit.

Nothing wrong with Weckl, but I think he'd be too clean, proper, and technical. Would still be interesting, but I can see the songs losing a lot of their original soul.

With Vinnie taking Ringo's place, every beetles song would instantly become more interesting for drummers. Everyone here would enjoy the Beetles more. But that might come at some expense of non-drummers.

Not asked, but Gadd would just be a straight improvement.

On the whole, I think you’re right about all of those. Including Gadd. But that’s not a slam on Ringo. Gadd is a brilliantly creative player. It’s not a come-down to come in second to his creativity

No remember Bernard Purdie played drums for the Beatles. Stsrkey was like Mickey Dolenz of Monkees. Both eventually learned to play- taught by the great Bernard Purdie. I read this in Purdie’s new book. “I invented all the cool $4it on drums and recorded every hit by an artist”. He was the Hit man. I think that would be a better name for book.

I think I would rather not think about it.

He wouldn't have agreed to do this in the first place. Outside of him probably hating the music, Buddy wouldn't have been the "star" of the show, and he wouldn't have liked that.

Or they would have smoked more Pot with Buddy than Ringo..

Portnoy does quite a quite a respectful Ringo.

The magic with the Beatles is that none of them were virtuosos on their instruments but together were far greater than the sum of their parts.

I agree. I didn't like any of their solo albums, except for The Concert for Bangladesh, which was a group effort.

Edit: the primary reason for my bias is, I thought The Beatles would be together until they were old men. My teenage brain was troubled by their breakup. It was even more disturbed when I heard Yoko sing with John. 🙉

All Things Must Pass is the gem in Beatles solo albums imo but there's a bootleg of the Beatles playing pretty much the entire album as all the songs were presented to the Beatles but not used.

They were very good at quality controlling each others ideas. That being said I can't wait to see McCartney again in December
