At a gig live and unmced....to my ear every 10" drum dies too quick, by virtue of it's (lack of) size. Yea even the Guru. I'd probably think your Reference 10" tom dies too quick too. Brand shouldn't matter. It's a physics thing. That's why I'm a 12/13 guy now. I love the note a 10" makes. I can get that note with a 12" and still have the sustain I need.

Well that's good. I was always a 12/13 guy until I got these 10/12 References. But in the end, I'll end up with a single 9x13 on the Reference, creating a 13/16/22 kit as usual. And right now, I'm working on a schlepp-able Bonham kit that will have 10x14/16x18/14x26 drums of various makes that takes up no more room than my 13/16/22 would. So in the end, I've left even the 12" behind
