One-sided tuning pegs

I don't know the proper terminology, but a bass drum I'm interested in has "one-sided tuning pegs". How does this work, pros, cons, etc?

They're typically known as "single tension." I love them, they're often very resonant because of the light hardware and the fact that both heads are necessarily matched in tension, and they can be tuned quickly. The downside is that you get less tuning flexibility, and you typically can't tune as high as you can with typical tension hardware. It works well on bass drums in my opinion.
