Notation question

How would you guys play the buzzed eighths on this? Having a discussion about this piece a friends son is playing last night and like in everything everyone had a different opinion. So wanted to see what the consensus was here.

It's a beginner's piece, and the buzzes are preparation for playing a real roll. Each note is played as a single "buzz" stroke. The buzz stroke itself requires some finesse to do well, but the kids playing the piece will be doing ok if they can make a reasonably long buzz, with a straight up and down motion, and without changing their grip.
