Nobles and Cooley ….. quite impressive!

I recently watched a documentary of sorts from Business Insider on the N and C factory and how they build drums, It reminded me of a fine luthier type operation. Unfortunately the wife (drummer) was also watching and drooling and I’m waiting for a “surprise” on our credit card bill 🤣. Really beautifully made drums.

That's impressive. Chris Whitten loves the N&C-I haven't seen him in awhile-hope he's just busy. I'd love to have 3 piece walnut from them. I may not shine but the kit would-yeah baby!

A Noble & Cooley kit is in the #1 slot of my wish list.

I have been a fan of N&C for quite some time. I wonder how their sound compares to those that are making TINE drums. (I think they are called) You know the ones that are made like a wooden barrel out of vertical wood slats.

N&C make their own solid shells, but I think they get most (or all?) the ply shells from an outside vendor. I have a N&C walnut set, and to make a matching 10" they had to order the shell. The quality of the new drum is fantastic, and even up close the match is perfect! And dayum... they sound fantastic!

My set is confetti sparkle lacquer, 10/12/14/20, and I paired it with a Gretsch USA 5x14 snare.

IMO, this is THE N&C snare to own:

Last time I was in Nashville, I wanted to play this one, but I was really afraid to. No snare drum is worth my marriage. But still...

The video didn't show much about the seam where the ends of the plank are joined together. What kind of joint they use, gluing etc. They are certainly nice and it's great that they are not not just putting out another mass produced good drum, but building the best drums that they can.

Some of my former N&C kits - a CD Maples kit in Honey maple gloss lacquer and a shell bank of Horizon drums in Black Cherry Burst .

I have also previously owned the following N&C snares
Alloy Classic in 4.75” and 6.5”
Walnut SS 6”
Cherry SS 7”
Maple SS 5”
Beech SS 7”
Ash SS 7”
Sassafras 5”
Plus some others I cannot recall at this moment .

All were wonderful drums really well made and I enjoyed playing them . They were all sold off as part of a large purge of drum gear I did just prior to the Pandemic . I have scratched my N&C itch and have no plans to own any more kits or snares .IMG_0570.jpegIMG_0566.jpegIMG_0567.jpeg
