New drummer - Bought new set with a bent hoop

Hey all! I'm pretty excited that I finally bought a drum set and have a place to play it. I decided to go with a complete entry level set so I could get a good start with the hardware and not buy someone's old beat up hardware. I bought a Pearl Roadshow and am pretty happy with it. Sure it's 6 ply poplar, made in China but I think Pearl did a decent job providing gear that is solid and will last.

My problem is the kick drum hoops came a little marred up. 22" metal hoops, one of them isn't a perfect circle. It's flatter on one side where the hoop was damaged a little bit. I noticed it when it didn't seat as well, and while tuning, that section seems to have weird overtones and is a different note than at the other lugs.

Is this a big deal? Do I need to get a new hoop, or will it reform to the bass drum shape after some time? (They won't give me a new hoop and say I need to replace the whole set, or get $20 back.)

Thanks!

Congrats on the new set! I played a friend's Roadshow once and liked it.

If they're offering to exchange the drum kit, you might as well take them up on it while you still can. The warped hoop will probably always bother you and will likely affect resale value if/when you decide to upgrade down the road.

When the replacement kit arrives, inspect it closely for flaws. Assuming that both kits are the same finish etc., keep the best parts from each kit and return the items that you are less than happy with.

I'd take them up on exchanging the set...even though it's a pain in the rear to exchange a whole set vs just getting a replacement hoop.
