Not seen this mentioned on here yet but for those that like to read up on the history of our instrument there's been an impressive & comprehensive book recently published called Kick It - A Social History of the Drum Kit.
Comes in at an impressive 320 pages and covers the history over the last 150 years of our instrument, making a case for its importance on how the drums have helped shape modern music and it's social impact, detailing each decade and the instruments advancements and it’s role in the music and drummers from those periods.
I have my copy and I can say it's well worth checking out.
