Neil is to blame...

I love Ringo but the Beatles not so much . Couple few tunes I like but they just don’t do it for me . I respect the talent and get why they were big . Very successful, just as is Metallica and Ozzy. I never understood all the Lars hate 🤷🏻‍♂️. Fact is , like other drummers , he is responsible for many picking up a pair of sticks and giving it a go . Of course there are better drummers than him . There are also better guitarists and singers than James .So? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤔. What’s the point ?
These type discussions are always weird to me lol . Lots of generalizations thrown around . I find it comical . Someone brought up luck ? A degree of luck is always involved in making it in music or anything else . The guy doesn’t suck lol and neither does the band . My brother ( who passed at 37) was an amazing rock and blues guitarist . Could play like and as good as SRV. Could play circles around many rock guitarist pros . He never made it big( other than locally known in the 80’s and 99’s , but I and he wouldn’t begrudge someone else’s success just because he was better at playing or writing . Doesn’t mean they also were not good , or didn’t deserve their success. .

Anyway, here’s 40 years worth of Lars Tama drums 🤘🏼, posted on Instagram by Tama.

After the Netflix documentary it was very clear to me why Lars was never fired. The dude is adorable and he IS Metallica. And I'm not even a fan 😁

A group is more than a random combination of the best musicians in the area.
He was not fired for a myriad of reasons that have already been discussed in various interviews, but the biggest reason that NEVER gets talked about is that Lars' dad was financing the band in their early days. Lars comes from a lot of money. He was living in Newport Beach California and taking private tennis lessons when he hooked up with James for the first time. At age 16, Lars already had a vinyl collection of over 10,000 records.
There's a great documentary about the 70's era Sunset Strip before and during when Hair Metal took over. The director knew Lars back around 1979ish and confirmed all this.

There's something about those dark green sparkle drums. I think I'm in love! :)

The Drum Doctors is where i bought my square badge kit. Now I just need a studio with 50 microphones on my kit, and I can get the Black Album sound too! ;)
Or you can get Trigger (to replace your recorded drums no matter how bad they may sound as long as they are in separate tracks. Then get Superior Drummer 3 and follow this:

Of course you can get other Superior add ons and get even closer.

This has been added as a preset in SD3 under the Metal/Heavy Rock Category labeled as Man of Sand. Looks to be the exact preset built here in the video. That being said, understanding the why behind each effect and mic properties, bleed settings as touched upon in this video is much much more valuable as it "teaches a man to fish". Simply pulling up the preset saved within SD3 is simply a fish.

Much, much cheaper than the 50 microphone plan.

Is there really a point to arguing about Lars in the year 2024? I can’t imagine a new take or insight coming out at this point. But I do find it fascinating that pro or con the guy still has people talking.

(FTR, I grew up a big fan and I still remember taking home the cassette single of Enter Sandman on release day and thinking “what the hell is this?” The Queen cover on the flips side ripped tho. Haha)

Ya, Stone Cold Crazy sounded like their kind of metal even when Queen did it.

I really do think that the ribbing Lars is given is, predominantly, good natured....almost meme-like.

Maybe it is something he does not view in an affectionate way...if so, I hope he speaks up...though that would likely spark the less aware to jump harder in a classic 'pack mentality' response.

Hope he does not think it defines him beyond expressing an appreciation of what we think of as his aura of 'having a good sense of self deprecating humor'.

Any irritation i have at his success/ability ratio is purely a reflection of how small I am...not him.

Fact: I have never owned any Metallica music, nor do I want to own any. Peace and goodwill.

If only Neil could have saved Slingerland. I've owned vintage wooden Ludwig, Gretsch, and Slingerland snare drums, and there IS magic in the Slingerland snare bed. Ludwig is mediocre, and Gretsch is terrible - it doesn't even align with the throwoff!

Rory Storm & The Hurricanes: Ringo.

FWIW, Tama is releasing a 40th Anniversary Lars Ulrich signature drum set. Limited to only 72 kits because the shade of yellow is so unattractive, Sweetwater has it listed at $7,999.99 (USD).
Lame.
Now if they'd reissue the Artstar II's used on his ...Justice tour in that awesome black over white livery, I'd be all over that! That's hands down my favorite looking kit of all of them.

I don't want to know what that would cost. Wasn't it like $20k back in the 90's?

I've always like the grey with black hardware more than the white kit.

An acquaintance of mine had his dad bought him the white kit just like the one Lars played, in Mexico, so you know that was not cheap. (This was right when Metallica released the black album) (there I was with my pos Ludwig from the 70s well I didn'thave a rich dad, hell my dad wasn't in my life at all)...funny enough the guy couldn't play to save his life, but he was in a couple of bands because of the kit and because his dad financed all kinds of PA gear and even got them gigs. I lost touch with him so I don't know if he ever learned how to play or if the kit is just collecting dust in a storage somewhere.
