How's the sound out of that a/e kit?

That new MCX finish is amazing.

Pearl is lookin' really good so far.

Anyone know what wood the e-pro kist is made of?

Great pics, Mike!

It looks like a lot of big cutbacks. According to Pearl's site, no more Masters Premium kits at all. Just Masterworks, Reference, and MCX. Same with Tama: the SC Maples and Bubingas no longer have the painted-on logo; instead, they have that cheap-looking Starclassic badge glued on the shell. Only the SC Bubinga Elite and SC Bubinga Omni-Tune have the painted-on badge.

Also, the Tama color offerings are wretched: no more piano white, no reds, blues, greens, nada. Just a ton of boring bursts and stripes. They must be definitely playing towards trends and a certain audience.

on that picture of the monster kit from the back, anybody know what those white rings on the bass heads are?

Except for really high end stuff - everybody seems to be going for the pop-punk / Hot Topic look for all their stuff. It's very difficult to buy a classically styled yet reasonably priced kit anymore. How hard is it to churn out some mid-range or high end production kits in nice solid or transparent lacquer finishes without burl walnut / bubinga veneers etc...?

And can we do away with the 20" deep bass drums already?? And the Black Hardware?

OK - Crotchety old man rant over now... ;-)
