My pedal spring sounds like a mouse is trapped inside it!

I can't get rid of the squeak! Are there any springs that are better than others. Are any lubes better than others (without getting crudded up with dirt and dust)? THANKS!!

The DW springs come with a felt inside of the coils - this is supposed to eliminate any spring noises. But then Yamaha and Pearl springs don’t have felt and they’re noiseless to begin with. Sometimes the squeak is t the spring, but where the S-hook connects to the rocker - so you see a plastic piece on the rocker between the S-hook.

I would suggest getting a whole spring assembly - Gibraltar makes a generic one that fits most pedals.

If you try to lubricate it, you’ll just end up making a mess.

If you bury the beater, your squeak can be coming from the beater rubbing on the head at the end of a stroke.

I've run into this several times. The proper application of a bass drum patch can stop this. I use the Evans EQ patch.

Remember to lubricate anything that moves. This includes the bearings, the hinges at the heel plate and where the spring pivots. If all else fails, you can try a new spring or stuff a cotton ball inside the spring. I like Tri-Flow lubricant. It has Teflon in it, so as it lubricates it also cleans and gets rid of any old dirt or gunk that might have been in there.

I've found in my experience, that the spring making noise seems to always originate from unwanted friction elsewhere in that mechanical chain. Like mentioned above, keeping other moving parts connected to the spring (and sometimes the spring itself) properly lubricated removed that nuisance from my pedal.

Maybe if he tries something like this??? (to lubricate that is)
