Hey everyone, Happy Holidays, I hope you are doing well, staying healthy, and able to support yourselves during this pandemic.
My name is Sam and it has been some time since I've been on this incredible forum mashed with wisdom, skill, and experience for all things drums.
A quick background (I'll try to keep it short):
I'm from the Minnesota Twin Cities and have been playing drums since the 5th grade. Over the last 7 years, I had been playing with an up-and-coming bluegrass/country band with incredible players, but more so, and incredible family of support, Love those guys (I do want to clarify though, that funk, soul, and all things New Orleans is where my drummer heart is).
Now to the point - In the midst of our early success, we had just released our first album at 1st Ave, I got caught up in something I could have never predicted. In the same week, I played a (as in 1) pulltab and won $1000 and played a scratch off and won $5000 (I literally could count on my two hands up until this point in my life the amount of times I had actually gambled). Needless to say, after that happened, I immediately got addicted, so much so that within 1 year, I had lost my savings, got let go from my group, was pawning my drum kits, and more importantly almost lost my marriage.
SO... with the incredible support of my wife, my band members, and family, I did the whole 9, got into in patient treatment, did the groups, struggled through relapses and now thank the lord, I am here today, alive, not in jail, and working a job.
I'm reaching out right now because I am coming up to my 1 year milestone abstaining from gambling. This anniversary is huge for 2 reasons. It's the goal that my wife and I set to when we can start seriously start trying to have children, and when I can get back on the skins again and purchase a drum kit.
Long story short, I'm looking for any love from anyone in Minnesota and am trying to pick up a beater kit for cheap. I know I acquired too much gear when I was gigging hard so I thought I'd put this out there. If any of ya'll need more space in your home studio, or need to purge, or whatever, if you are looking for a home for your old dogs where they will be loved and played everyday, please hit me up.
Damn, straight up, this is the first real public thing I've put out there cause it's taboo. And on that note, gambling addiction is real, and if you feel like you, or someone you know may be starting to get out of hand, hit me up, don't let it take over your life. Reply on this thread or shoot me an email at kurachst@gmail.com and we can chat.
Much love,
