Ludwig Supraphonic Acne

Is there anything I can do to restore this 14x6.5 to it's original glory?
B/O sharp corner badge with serial #1713419.
I find it very ironic that the sticker inside says "corrosion resistant".
I know they meant the "Ludaloy" and not the chrome.
What would be a fair selling price in this condition?
Thanks in advance!

Wow that's pretty bad! that used to happen a lot but they have refined the process quite a bit. looks like the hoops are rusting too. You would have to re-chrome it. No idea about a fair used price, some of you supra experts chime in.

Well, my Supra that I bought in the 80's got acne pretty bad and I had it powder coated in one of the hammered metallic finishes. Looks cool, but I would NOT recommend it. It doesn't sound the same at all.

You could probably have it sandblasted and re-chromed, but that would likely be even more expensive than powder coating.

I have no idea what it is worth. That is some pretty severe acne and it looks like the tension rods and hoops are rusting, too.

Just play it and forget about how it looks.

I don't mind the way it looks. It sounds great! I might sell it though. I already have too much gear. I know that this model can go for high dollars in better condition.
Just looking for opinions on what a fair asking price might be "as is".
I'm assuming it would cost more to have it re-chromed than it's worth.

A couple of years ago I took some vintage door hardware to a plating shop to get re-plated. It was pretty cheap.

Hmm...
In this condition I think it's worth maybe 30-35 dollars, most.
But, as I'm feeling generous I'll gladly take it off your hands for 40 dollars ;)
Just send it to me and it's all good!

No problem. Just have to add a couple hundred dollars for shipping! :)

Once you strip it,and replate it....it will be a player.Anytime you remove the original finish, that devalues the drums.

That particular vintage of LM 402,are more valuable than others, because of the Bonham(I hate even doing that) factor.Even in that shape, you could possibly get 300 or more for it.It depends on who's bidding.

They look great with the shell stripped, and the aluminum polished.Almost like chrome, and you don't have to mess with it,if you clear coat it.

Speaking of old threads...
I still have this snare. I never did a thing to it other than replacing the heads and wires. I love the sound of it so much, it has become my number one player! Whenever I play it, flakes of chrome fly everywhere! I call it Trusty Rusty!

I'm so glad you kept it! I like original gear, warts and all! I'd rather have an older Supra with some peeling than a flawless newer one.

When I bought my last set of vintage Ludwigs, I looked for a champagne sparkle kit that actually HAD a little bit of wrap gap. This way, I knew it was original. I glued and clamped all of the seams as best as I could just to keep it from peeling anymore. I love the heck out of this drum set! It's nice to have a kit with actual copper in the wrap.

You can see the gap below between the lugs to the right of the tom bracket.
