Looks like I need a new drum hauler.

In my opinion, choosing to drive a larger, heavier, safer automobile seems logical. Provided it fits your purchase, maintenance and operating budgets.
Its not about safety for me, it is about having to haul lots of things on a very regular basis which would not be practical or possible with a small car.

I'll take the flying SUV it survived the best.

Big pick up truck, small minded idiot driving it as usual! hahha and of course a Dodge by the badge on the ground, now it makes even more sense!!!!
If you can’t Dodge it Ram it!

lol at pickup truck drivers that nutswing on a certain brand.
Btw I’m a Chevy/gm guy 🤣

Guilty as charged... I actually sold this and moved on to something else.

For the OP, I now have a Honda Pilot. It has a huge cargo area with seats (3-row) folded down or seats 6-7 people, or a combination of those.

I'm glad to hear no people, or instruments were damaged.

My vote is for a Ford Transit Connect cargo van. I’ve had mine for 8 years. Couldn’t imagine driving anything else. Short enough to park in parking lots and to go through most drive through restaurants. Great gas mileage. More than adequate space for gear.

Practical? Nope. But is it possible? Yes! And it makes getting there a whole lot more fun. Just saying.

If true, this is an interesting statistic.

We actually own a Dodge Ram 2500. It's a 1996 that we bought brand new. The only time we use it nowadays is to haul stuff or for towing. It's worth its weight in gold. I can't tell you how many times I've needed it.

just get a cargo net for the back seat, and you'll be golden!!!

With the turning radius of a Navy ship (and around the same fuel consumption), I still wish I had my parent's old car...

I learned to drive in the Oldsmobile version of that car!!! The classic Grocery Getter. On vacations, I also got the back seat that faced backwards all to my self!!

So many good memories!!

@DrumDoug Did you ever decide on anything? Got your eyes on something yet?

I didn’t intend to get the same vehicle as a replacement, but it just worked out that way. We were looking at either a used Ford Edge, or a Toyota RAV4. We found a good deal on a 22 Edge. I wanted a RAV4 hybrid for the gas mileage, but after some calculations, it would take 10 years for the gas savings to make up the difference in price. So now I’m back to driving a silver Ford Edge. The neighbors won’t be able to tell the difference. I’m not sure what I think about all the touch screens inside. It’s like driving an iPad. We had enough money in savings to make a big down payment, and we will reimburse ourselves when the insurance settlement arrives. The previous Edge was 9 years old. We could have bought something similar without much extra money, but then we are back to having an older car. We took the opportunity to upgrade.

It's always smart to calculate stuff like this.
