Looking for info on a old ludwig kit

Hello everyone i joined up looking for some information on a kit i recently acquired. It is not in the best of shape and is missing its badges but a couple people have told me it could be really old.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have attached some pics.

At a glance, that looks like a Ludwig Club Date. If that is indeed the case, it is a worthwhile endeavor to clean it and find all the missing pieces. Any badges?

The consolette is probably going to give you the most information, can you snap some pics of that, the tom bearing edge, inside of the BD as well. Need to see BD claws.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I cannot find any badges on this kit. Here are more pictures i hope they help, the tom is painted red on the inside but the ft and bd are painted white. The tuners on the bass run all the way across and tune both heads at the same time.

the tom leg holder for the floor tom makes me think it is a 60's MIJ (made in japan) copy of a Ludwig (i.e. stencil kit). I'm not sure ClubDates of the day have that kind of floor tom leg holder, but I have seen several on MIJ stencil kits. Not sure, but That may explain the lack of badges.

The hardware suggests mid-late '50s or early '60s, and the wrap looks like the c1970 "bowling ball" version of Oyster Black Pearl. Would like to see the bass drum spurs and a close-up of the fl tom leg mounts for the name stamp (they offered those through the early '70s!)

I don't think they possess much collector/vintage value, but if the edges are good and the shells are round, play them!

Those were the common WFL/Ludwig leg holders of the day. Also, there were a lot of Japanese knockoffs, but I don't recall them ever tackling Ludwig.

On the other hand, it's completely possible that someone took cheap shells, and attached Ludwig hardware. Are there any stray/elongated holes? Check the tom holder on the kick, it seems odd that it would be mounted off-center.

Ha,I didn't know. They look so simple but serve their purpose. It is curious how MIJ stencils never copied Ludwigs, only other US companies.

Wow thanks for all the info you guys this is getting interesting. I do not see any stray holes anywhere, somone else did mention to me that it looked like it had been rewrapped(another possibility for the missing badges i guess)
The wrap is also coming unglued on all 3 drums. Heres a shot of the logo on the ft leg as well as the placement of the tom holder. It is mounted a little closer to one tuner but could appear more off center because i am using ft legs in the bd, the originals were missing.

My guess is that it's a 60's era Club Date.

The hardware is early '60s, the tom holder style and knurled L-arm are c1960-65, and the script logo tom leg clamps would have started around 1959 or 60.

Still curious as to the placement of the tom holder, especially as it should have been centered between the top lugs on a Club Date, no fudging as if it was mounted on the side (where it also should have been centered...)
