Looking for a pingy ride.. Not washy... Something smooth and quick

Any suggestions would be awesome

If you manage to find one, the Zildjian A Earth Ride might be what you're looking for, massive sound!

The Sabian Raw Bell Dry Rides are not only pingy, but also very musical. If you like pingy, you really can't go wrong with these. They come in all 4 flavors: AA/AAX/HH/HHX. I had the HH first but traded it for the AA which is a little more lively. They all have killer bells.

I would second the recommend for checking out Paiste Signature Dry Ride or Signature Dry Heavy Ride. Both are very musical with the unmistakable pingy, bright clarity for which Paiste is known. The Zildjian Earth Ride is also a good suggestion, which someone else mentioned--that is a very clear, pingy ride with very little wash.

It all depends on what style of music you play, too. I wouldn't recommend the Earth Ride or Paiste Signatures for jazz. These kinds of rides are great for rock or fusion, where you want that "ping" to cut through and be heard (think Stewart Copeland ride sound).

For jazz pingy ride sound, the Sabian AA Raw rides are pretty cool--dark with some wash, but still quite articulate.

Overall, for a clear ping note, you cannot go wrong with a heavy weight Paiste Signature or Paiste Dark Energy ride. Paistes have great cutting clarity to them.

I have both Zildjian A ping - (does exactly what it says on the tin) and the Zildjian Earth ride and they both have great stick definition, tho the earth is a lot heavier cymbal so more suitable for louder material.

Just played on one of these at the store the other day. Beginning to make me think I need to get a set of Sabians! Yes, beautiful rock rides.

The Zildjian A ping has a nice ping and a great bell, but to me the wash sounds unpleasant.

Go hit the Zildjian K Custom Hybrid. Very good ping, a variety of sounds from the top, very crashable, and a killer bell.

Agreed.

I have the 21'' version and it does the work of 4 different rides. Best ride i've ever owned/played.

I got my kid the 20" after a very long search. He uses it in jazz band, at his church gig, and in his rock band. It's hard to find a ride that does everything, but this is pretty close.

Does the 21" crash well, too? I've never heard one.

Great choice and yes it crashes very well.

I have a 21" Ziljian A Custom ride. Its very pingy, but it does ring for quite a while. go to the store check one out. If you plan on crashing it, try downsizing because they are very loud. This is a beast of a cymbal.

Heard quite a few rides and wtd the most ping with good bell sound so went with the Sabian AA Dry Ride 21-inch. Also use a bit of Dynamat on the underneath to dry it out a bit more, with four Dynamat bits total. If you are curious, they are about 0.25-inch wide and 1.5 inches long. Two are on the main section of the cymbal just before the bell on 180 degree (opposite) sides). The other two are places near the very edge but not quite and had to play around with placement to get it how pingy i preferred it. She IS NOT 'dead' at all, just usd the Dynamat to help with the modulation of various tones/textures.

Sometimes i miss the old days when cymbals, even those of the same make/type/size sounded different. You could go into a 'cymbal vault' and really find a cymbal that sounds as you want. Now they all sound virtually the same... which is a good thing i guess in some respects, bad in others.

For ping with no wash I would say a heavy ride would be the best bet. Some good ones I've used are HHX Dry ride, Sabian Dry ride, HH Rock ride, K Custom or K Heavy ride, A Rock ride, Z Custom Mega Bell ride, Paiste Dry Heavy ride, Paiste Sound Creation Bell Ride, Meinl Dark ride. There have been a lot good deals on demo and floor model heavy rides on ebay lately.

Paiste Alpha 21" Groove Ride.
I love mine, pingy with a little warm wash and a great bell. Can be played smoothly or harder.

Well,

Zildjian makes a "Ping Ride" and they are fine and another good choice would be the Zildjian Rock Ride, which is heavier than the Ping Ride and has a bigger bell. The Rock Ride cuts through most music and yet is versatile enough to be used in Big Band music - just ask Ed Shaughnessy; he used to endorse them!
