I was going to reply to a recent Buddy Rich thread that mentioned Donny as the one person that Buddy actually taught and I think Donny deserves his own thread.
I've taken quite a few lessons from Donny and I am proud to call Donny a friend and mentor. From what I recall Donny says Buddy never gave him formal lessons but they were close friends and discussed drums and approach quite a bit. He also had the pleasure of watching Buddy perform up close hundreds of times.
