LiveBPM is dead

One thing I never liked about Live BPM is the lack of an option to have a click . I always thought having a click in addition to the beat tracking would be really useful.

I use Pro Metronome on my iPhone. Works great.

I was curious why some of us don't have it anymore, but some people still do. So I looked into it a bit more. I also have LiveBPM installed on an old iphone 5, where it still works. But on my new 16, I get the notice below:

Here's what I bet is going on: If you are signed into the App Store, you've already lost it, and can't get it back until such time as the developer and Apple bring it back. If you are NOT signed it, you can still use it.

I am not seeing this in the Apple app store.
Would you share the app developer's name?
Sure. Developer is (hopefully this link will work):

Andre Douzette

I used this yesterday at rehearsal, and it's works very well. My two little gripes with are are
1) display of BPM is in a smaller font, but still plenty big to read easily.
2) It doesn't have the slider where you can easily adjust the range sensitivity. You have to go into settings to select from 6 preset ranges, or create a custom range. It also has an automatic range detection feature which is "experimental." I just put mine on 70-140 and it worked fine.

I use it for my metronome, it works pretty good. I just put all the songs in order and go down the list. I do wish there was a search feature on it though.

I really like the jog wheel. It lets me pull stuff up pretty darn fast.

I use the iPhone LiveBPM app for all of my gigs.

I have not tried BeatMirror, but it might be a possible alternative.

I don't see BeatMirror when searching directly in the App Store. It does show up here though:
Costs $4.99

I also see this one now: MetroBPM for $1.99. Looks good.
I just bought it. Seems to work well. It auto detects, but also lets you enter a tempo by tapping.
You can change the tempo easily on the main screen by tapping up or down arrows.
Also includes a metronome!

I'm not familiar with jog wheel. I can scroll up-and-down on the song list. But when you get like a 100 songs on there you can blow right by the one you're looking for not see it

It's still a pity that the apps shown here don't have bigger characters and... decimals. Both of those characteristics are important.

For those who use LiveBPM, where do you set your phone? Mine rests lazily by my bass drum pedal and I check my tempo from time to time.
At rehearsals, we sometimes set an iPad so that bassist and drummer check accuracy.

Next time I'll give AutoBPM a try.

The two apps that I've just gotten to replace LiveBPM are MetroBPM ($1.99) and Auto BPM (free).

MetroBPM has a nice big font, Auto BPM is medium sized.

Both do decimals. MetroBPM they are on by default, no way to turn off. Auto BPM you turn them on in settings.

Both of these seem just as capable as LiveBPM. I'll be testing them to see which I prefer.

I have one of these phone mounts that I use to mount my phone under my hi-hat. It's essential gear.

I use a one up one down set up and it is mounted off the bass drum cymbal mount a cell phone with Live BPM beside the mounted tom. Easy to see when I want to look at it. I mount a tablet with Songbook Pro in front of the snare drum off a cymbal stand. It has the count in if I want it and the lyrics with notes for all the songs in the set.

It’s nice having that authority everyone has to defer to. I just say “nope, tempo was perfect.” End of discussion.
Same! It shuts down arguments real quick and also lets us know real quick if we want to adjust the tempo for our version. Also, keeps me reigned in when we are playing live. I'm very glad it is still working on my iphone and will be finding a similar product if/when livebpm stops functioning.

Mine is mounted on a phone bracket similar to al’s , but my bracket is mounted on my music stand just left of the hi hat stand.

Have the bpm strobe and click built right in to the BandHelper app. All songs on setlist, metronome just one click away. A fine tool keeps the ego’s in check and helps the vocalist mostly. He needs it to be right on the money for proper phrasing , timing , fit all the words in on some lyric heavy songs… nobody wants to get those angry looks from the singer.
