Your right on as regards the beater. I justAS a foot note,i have been also noticing that the beater has alot to do with the feel, sound, and fluidity of the pedal. i tried a Vic Firth lolly pop hard felt beater, using the edge position, and love the tone of the BD, and i feel it has improved my speed and fluidity . Good Luck
purchased a Trick Pro 1 V pedal. It came with a titanium beater with a small plastic surface disc head. It is super fast and sounds great. I tried two regular ball type beaters, one hard felt the other wood and while they work ok they have a lot more rebound and create a bit of lag and not nearly as able to be buried as disc.
