Let's see your POV/ Driver's seat pics

Update: I swapped the 12" with an Alesis pad, added my good ol' TAMA Superstar snare tuned towards the fat end (my Sonor is tuned pretty funky) and put some trashy old cymbals on a stand as a stack. A ton of new sounds and possibilities for me, lots of fun to play. Oh and I removed the double pedal for now, I don't use it with my current project. The smartphone underneath the hihat runs my metronome app, a remote control for Ardour and the remote control for the Soundcraft UI24R, which is friggin' convenient.

Finally got to test drive the Paiste 18" PSTX Swiss Medium Crash and the 10" 2002 Splash. They sound amazing! Guitar player also approved haha. The 10" 2002 Splash might be the fav cymbal i have now. It sounds just perfect! Also took the Ahead Rock sticks for a spin, but not convinced. Balance feels off and the volume of rimclicks is fairly low. With wood sticks you'd get a pretty decent 1 or 2" space to get a nice rimclick, but with these sticks it's milimeter work. Anyway, pic time!

Questions:
  1. What's that mic situation there by your right knee?
  2. What mics are you using on your toms?
  3. What's the dead animal on your snare? 😉

What's that mic situation there by your right knee?

It's a dick/crotch/wurst mic. In my case it's an AKG C 391 B with an omnidirectional CK 92 capsule, which I prefer in this spot. I try to keep it equidistant to bass drum, snare, ride and floor tom. It captures the sound "inside the drum set". I generally add a lot of (n/y) compression and some saturation to it and then bring it up to fatten an overall pretty clinical sound. Works wonders!

The mic underneath is a modded AKG C1000 to capture the kick and some pretty low end from my bass drum.

What mics are you using on your toms?

Shure Beta 98 AD/C. Perfect size, perfect sound, low footprint, very low bleed and a pretty versatile goose neck. I also use it for the snare side of both snares.

What's the dead animal on your snare? 😉

:D

It's a Rohema Mr. Muff - MiniMuff. It's a (metal) clamp one attaches to the hoop. It comes with magnetic weights in the pocket, so in my photo you can see it "hinged up". Tap on it with your stick and it flaps up. You can also bring it back with a stick.

But it's a bit boring looking, so I already organized everything I need for the Supergrobi version of it, but *still* didn't make it to our seamstress yet :/

Looking down at the brand-new personal cooling device. It makes things so much more pleasant, especially in this very humid summer. Why did I wait so long before getting this? Purchased from the local hardware store when looking for something else. If only it had a Yamaha logo on it! :geek:

I couldn't do without mine; it's positioned where it is so that it blows upward through the space between the snare, HH, and rack tom to keep my hands dry.

From my last gig: I normally play a one-up, two-down but for the last gig of the summer, I decided to bring out the 10" tom. It was certainly challenging adjusting to having the 12" tom way off to the right and the ride way over to the side. But fun!

What manufacturer is the snare and model.
That is the very last Guru Tour series 13x7" segmented black walnut snare ever made. If my house caught on fire it would be this snare and my dog that I grab and run with.

Here it is in the workshop with the guy who made it (@Andy Crosby)
