How do you rate the PST7s?
Full disclosure -- I am the greenest drummer here and the only thing I have to compare them to are the Meinl HCSs that came with the kit.

That said, I really, REALLY like them. Much more "musical" than the HCSs.

I appreciate the honesty, I am considering a set, for the money they seem to be the best bet but struggling to choose, significantly better than HCSs is a good start though, having said that I think my saucepan lid is also in with a shout.

shot of my vintage 60s premier and my virgil donati snare, plus my gorgeous AF amedia ride cymbal <3

people who know me know i use aquarian on everything i can, this kit is the only exception as the toms and bass drum are pre-international sized so i have to use remo heads for them, as AFAIK, nobody else makes pre-international/imperial sized heads

Have you tried the American Vintage heads? They have a wider collar than their standard heads, but if the single ply coated sound isn’t for you on this kit I’ve heard that you can custom order ANY Aquarian model with the wider collar.

yeah ive tried them, they dont fit sadly :( when i asked aquarian about making heads for these old imperial sized/pre-international sized kits they told me theres no plans (at the time) or in the future of making heads for them :(

the awkward sizes are a pain, they measure 11.78" and 16.4" :(

I took the blankets out of the bass drum, snugged up the batter head and noticed that the beaters sounded different. Swapped out the master and slave beaters and voila! It evened out the difference in tone although there isn’t an huge amount of difference in the wear.

Yes I have two side snares, one to the left and one to the right, which I most often use as a tom.
