Let's see your POV/ Driver's seat pics

I think I’m finally ready to get these congas out in some music. I’ve been working with them for a couple of months now, mainly just figuring out sounds and entry-level techniques. In the last week or so, I’ve been working on integrating them into the simple grooves I normally play.

If space allows at any given venue, I’ll probably set them up like this picture, off to the left of my hi-hats. If I don’t have enough space, I’m working on a hybrid thing with an x-hat setup where I can keep the drum set pieces off to my right and get the congas more in front of me. This has been a worthwhile endeavor - my tiny little brain has been forced to expand quite a bit! 🤪

Breaking my “no outdoor gigs in the summer” rule again to sub for a friend on a country gig. Got the ‘64 Luddies and some Swiss metal out. 14” Signature Dark Crisp hats, 18” 602 Paperthin, 20” Signature Mellow ride, 17” Signature Mellow crash. It was hot.

I'm diggin' your Paiste setup. How do you like the Dark Crisp hats?

I can’t compete with the pics youse dudes and dudettes post, but luckily I don’t ever feel like it’s a competition with anyone here. All of us “in the trenchers” seem to be very supportive of each other, and that makes me happy! :)

Here’s a POV from tonight. It was a fundraiser in Bakersfield with a wonderful cause - all proceeds went to the local battered women and children’s organization. Gig was fantastic with only one negative. It was 104 degrees in Bako today. 🥵 Ready for the triple digit heat to be done now. Sheesh.

Tracking a big rock tune for a friend at my practice space tonight. Eames 18/12/14, Pearl 6.5x24 brass free floater, Paiste 15” Giants Beats, 19” Rude thin, 24” Giant Beat, 22” Masters Swish. The little 18” really thumps wide open, tuned low with Fiberskyns!

For the audio geeks, Glyn Johns 3 mic setup, Audix D6 for kick and 2 EV Ravens for OH. Preamps from an old Ramsa board into Fostex 80 8 track reel to reel running NOS Ampex 456.
