Let's see your Gretsch kits (saved the best for last!)

Feel like I should post a new pic with the new Gretsch USA custom 14x6.5 snare on the kit and added the best gretsch logo front head.

Not my Gretsch set, but a feel good Gretsch story that I played a part in and felt inspired to share here.

My duo partner’s main gig is head music pastor at a large church in Bakersfield. The regular drummer there is a buddy of mine and if he’s out I’ll sub in for him on occasion. For the last several years, the kit at the church has been his huge amber Vistalite set in 14-16-18-26 sizes.

Seemingly an odd choice for worship music, the Vistas actually work well. The drums are in one of those fishbowls and the loud, reflective drums are right at home in the loud, reflective aquarium. Here’s a pic of that scene.

My drum buddy wanted to take those drums home so the church enlisted my help to get a dedicated set for the fishbowl. They like larger sizes as it’s modern worship music that lends itself to BIG sounds. Given their budget and from what I’ve read here, I figured they’d get the most bang for their buck with a set of Renowns.

Did the deal with Bentley’s and everyone’s happy. The drummer buddy has the Renowns at home getting them ready to install in the fishbowl this week. I feel like I got to help the church as Dana cut us a great deal, and my duo partner’s happy because he got high end sound for the church for smaller money than he expected.

The Renowns are beautiful drums and sound great. Looking forward to subbing in soon so I can hear them for myself in the music. 13-16-18-24.
