The opposite of what he needs if he's not hitting the drum, surely?
Lowering the spring tension might help. Lowering the heel will definitely help. Pointing your toe like that is like trying to use your sticks at a 45 degree angle.

Fixing the angle will release tension in the foot used to keep it at such a steep angle. Those leg muscles can then be used to help operate the pedal, not just keep the ankle way up in the air.


Great advice re foot angle but also as frustrating as its gonna be u need to start real slow...I've got the same problem with a wicked Keith Carlock BD groove I'm learning...get the angle right then start slow and build the speed its the only way.
