Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna drummer Joey Covington has died in a car crash, it’s been confirmed. He was 67.

Covington co-founded Hot Tuna with Jefferson Airplane members Paul Kantner, Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen. He recorded on Airplane’s album Volunteers later that year, then in 1970 became their permanent sticksman after the departure of Spencer Dryden.

He wrote and sang 1971 hit Pretty As You Feel then left the band the following year. In 1976 he worked on Jefferson Starship’s Spitfire album and later toured with his band The San Francisco Allstars.

Wow...another good one gone. My Condolences to all who knew him. I guess remembrance is in order

I couldn't find this version on any currently available album of theirs, so I figured it's good for sharing...and sharing was kinda their thing anyway back-in-the-day. RIP.

Covington co-wrote the lovely Top 40 Marty Balin tune "With Your Love" which appears on Spitfire LP.

I've long been a huge fan of the Airplane, and Hot Tuna was fun. Joey made great contributions to both bands (even through Dryden played on most of the truly great Airplane stuff). Sad news.

I just realized Joey is the 3rd Jefferson Airplane drummer to pass away.

Original drummer Skip Spence died in 1999.

Spencer Dryden passed away in 2005.

Now Joey.

In the order they were in the band.
