Is this Drumming right?

Basically someone I know has been on at me for years about how his daughter will be a pop star some day, but I am questioning the drumming.

Long story short, can someone more technically minded than myself identify what is off with the drumming in this track?

Much appreciated:

Looks like he likes to ride on his thigh during the breaks.

Just an opinion, don't know if the 16th note groove accenting the &'s on the hi hat really fits the song.

Can't hear the floor tom in the mix.

Hi, thanks for commenting. It sounds out of time during the breaks, to me. Would you agree with this? Something doesn't fit right, and I am not advanced enough to know what it is.

He's mainly just playing quarter notes with the bass drum during the breaks which sound ok but he sporadically will play offbeat 8th notes on the hi hat for a bar or 2. I just find the offbeat accents don't fit the song.

Got through a minute of it... I don't think the drummer is the problem with that performance. I just don't find her or the song very compelling.

Cheers......by breaks.......do you mean the verses with no 2 and 4 on the snare....just the 4 on the floor bass drum?
If so.....a whack on the snare on beat 4.....might help....and maybe a crosstick on the and of 2. add BOTH.
The time is pretty solid. Yep....IMHO..the 16th hats do not help.
Might be better with a 1/4 note ride crash on the chorus.....you know.....a bash.
Are you producing?.......Cheers Weston.

Hi, by breaks, I thought we were discussing the disco part on the hi hat. The timing seems lop-sided to me.

theyre not going to have a hit record with that, may have some minor success on an indie chart somewhere, but wont be a big seller mainstream wise.

as for the drumming, it works but its not...........whats the wording...........fitting for the song structure shall we say.

My whole reason really behind posting this, is it seems like an example of someone pushing a drummer out of their comfort zone. Like, as in into a zone that doesn't fit the song.

My 2 cents is she's not a very good rhythm guitar player.

He may be a little off, but it's because he's trying to follow her guitar, and the guitar is not consistent timing-wise.

Either way, they're not locked into each other, and that isn't the drummer's fault per se.
I didn't realise it was her that was throwing him off, thanks for illuminating that.

Someone put them on a click track. 😳😳

The intro is super catchy. I'm not hearing wild time fluctuation. I think this vocalist has a cool vibe. Geddy Lee's cousin?. Anyway I just think the drummer needs to take command..THIS is where the time is..THIS is the feel..hang on for the ride. I kept thinking Chris Whitten would take this to the charts. 🎶. I really do think it has potential.

The caption says "Raw Sound", and it is.

The band sounds fine to me. Raw rock n roll. Bless 'em! Just when you think the young 'uns have abandoned rock! Give them a bit of love in production - especially voice and drums, and boost the bass, and they'd sound pretty happening.

I personally wouldn't have chosen a disco beat. The riff would sit better and rock harder if the drummer focused on the one and three. Also, as Bermuda said, the songwriting is raw. It seems one strong melody or hook short of being the kind of song that would bring people back for another listen.

I kept thinking that Hole would rock the begeebers out of this. Courtney Love with Maloney kickin it?. This lady is happening though. The bass player and drummer just seem so milk toast. I felt bad for her. Her guitar tone is rockin.
