Is my drum copper?

Pearl Ultratone snare made in Japan. I always thought this was odd until I learned that there were chrome over steel snares, and chrome over copper. Is this oxidized metal or is this copper that's coming through?

If your two choices for that model are copper and steel, a magnet should tell you which you have. It looks like either oxidation or discoloration from the manufacturing process to me, but I can't really tell which.

I'd be surprised if it's steel, but a magnet will tell that for you. If it doesn't stick my guess is either copper or brass. Brass can and will oxidize like that over time being as it is mostly copper.

That could also be where the drum shell was welded if it not a seamless drum.

Ah, a magnet sticks. So it's steel then?
