I'm currently setting up right handed to try and exercise my right foot which has always been weaker but gives me problems due to hip issues, but I set up like this a lot. Left footed/right handed basically.
I finally got set up in the living room today for the first time in months (my daughter's coloring stuff was left lying around and got in the shot). I like this configuration.
Drums, L-R: 13" Tama Imperialstar tom left over from a big kit I used to have; Pearl steel piccolo snare; 14x5.5" Yamaha wood shell snare (birch.mahogany/falkata I think) made in the 1990s; 18" mystery floor tom: no brand name, synthetic material shell. When I had to get rid of my last normal set I converted an old pedal to hit the bottom head of this. With a lightly muffled Pinstripe it sounds pretty good.
Cymbals and other stuff, L-R: 14" unknown A Zildjian with a crack; 14" unknown A Custom Ziljian; 18" Sabian HH Chinese with cracks and missing chunks; metal O (aluminum, I think) from the side of a building hit with a pedal; UFO; 12" Wuhan Chinese, 6" Sabian splash; LP cowbell and blocks; 20" K Zildjian Suspended Orchestra; 16" A Zildjian crash with missing chunk; 18" Sabian HH Dark Crash.
The Dark Crash and the little Wuhan are the only cymbals I ever bought new.
As I said, I like this setup, but I miss the kits I used to have, and I don't ever want to get rid of any gear again.
Posted in some other threads, too - My Not A Cocktail No Stand Crazy Tiny Drum Kit! The 'bass' drum is a 14"X14" Maxitone MIJ from the late 60s. 8" Remo Buffalo drum as a snare. 10" Buffalo drum as a tom. 12" mismatched splashes as high hats. 16" vintage no logo ride. No heavy stands to lug around. No set up or tear down. Just pick it up, put it where you want it and play. Fits in the passenger seat of most cars. It is so low to the ground that sitting down is a must. I love this kit!
This's my Marching bass drum type drum-kit that i just made few weeks ago.6" mini snare on 16" floor-tom shell.8" mini-bass drum.with the 16" body.A self made remote cable kick-pedal.the bass sound is fat/punchy/tight.I set it up like a percussion player.where some song i will use my left hand to play the compact conga, my right hand play the snare/hi-hat! really fun to play this strange set up.
