heres one from across the pond….looks pretty darn nice, but it appears the wrap seam is lifting on the rack toms. Is this common? It is 40 years old….can it be attended to with some maintenance to keep it from spreading or is the only remedy a re-wrap

Just FYI….for anyone looking for a phonic kit that is here in the USA….I got contacted by Mike Eckert of Bloo Goose Percussion/Atlanta Drum Shop and he has a phonic plus kit in white, 22x18, 13x13, 14x14, and a 15x15 floor for sale. It is not posted for sale on his website or ebay or reverb….but he did send me pictures to my email. I’m going to pass on this one, as I want a standard sized kit with the 22x14 kick….but I thought I would let you guys know if anyone is looking. This kit has not been advertised yet

It wasn’t a Phonic, but I meant customs on items greater than $800. If you’re ordering from Germany, I’m sure the shipping will be easy since it’ll go through DHL and handed off to FedEx or UPS (whomever has the agreement), but you’ll likely be hit with duties.

The 16 has a 607 stamp….and the 12 a 612 stamp….I’m assuming these are July and December 1986 build dates?

Oops….I had it wrong, pulled out the tape, the rack I got is actually the 13. Waiting on the 12 and kick.
I had already tuned the 13 with the tune bot before grabbing the tape right now and realizing it’s not a 12….so it’s pretty high (123hz). Wow it absolutely sings! I’ll definitely be lowering it a tad once the 12 gets here….but already proof positive these have a HUGE range that sings very pleasantly

I made an unfortunate discovery today…I had not yet messed with the reso side of the 16 floor tom, but I did today. I thought the hoop looked out of round, went to take it off and it was difficult. Got it off….to my horror there’s a hairline crack completely thru top to bottom of the inner most ply of the shell. Took measurements with the tape, and yup, the bearing edge is oval. Wow, guess the package somehow got on its side during transport and something like an elephant sat down on it for the ride. I’m shocked it resonates at all but these shells are obviously tough. The 13 tom that was nestled inside the floor is fine.
I’m not worried about the money, I’m sure eBay will handle this amicably…but that is sickening to see a gorgeous piece of 37 year old musical equipment get ruined like that. Can‘t just run out and find another of these off the shelf.

Damn! it....my heart sunk reading this. It's as if the drum was mine...my fiance is out of town and I'm solo at 4 bros drinking a couple IPA's and this wrecked my buzz. Can't you contact SOMEONE to fix this?... This totally frikkin sucks.

Lol. That’s funny….I’ve had some beer iced down since this morning for college football tonight…probably not tasting the same now. There’s no fixing this….the most beautiful paper weight ever. It won’t all go to waste tho…I will definitely take off all the hardware/leg mounts/legs and keep it for backup or another shell. The hardware and legs are A+ condition. Finding that wrap might be difficult tho…it’s color code “KS” metallic silver. Not sure if this could be lifted off this shell and reapplied to a raw 16 shell (if I find one).

Well….I’m going to have to get resolution on the 16…but the kick n 12 are here. For a guy that went to high school in the 80s…the cool factor on these is undeniable. I would liken this to an 80s car guy getting his hands on a lambo countach….these are exotic all the way. As a drum guy, I can check phonics off the bucket list. They are stunning in person.
