If you could decide for your favorite manfacturer's standard sizes?

Sonor is my fave so I can use the SQ2 at significant cost but what would be your idea of pre-config standard sizes for your favorite manufacturer? Mine would be

22x14
10x8
12x9
15x14
16x16

I don't really have a favorite manufacturer. But I think that 15" toms/floor toms are way underrepresented in the drum marketplace. My ideal pre-configured kit would be 12x8, 15x13, 22x16. And if we're going for four toms, I'd add a 10x8 and a 16x14.

I think the 14" floor tom catches too much flak this days ;)

For me it would be:
-22x14"
-10x7"
-12x8"
-14x12"
-16x14

I've only owned one 14" tom/floor tom that I've been happy with. It's a Ludwig Element birch 14x14. Every other one I've owned (I typically buy used, and most kits seem to come with a 14") ends up sitting in a case in the corner, or being resold. For my tastes, a 14" is usually too high-pitched to be a floor tom, and too low-pitched to be a rack tom. I'm not anti 14" or anything. Just not my thing.

I've had one 14x12 I wasn't crazy about. I just ordered a 14x14 Brooklyn add on so I'm not scared off of them.

Good question with an easy answer:

12" x 8" mounted tom
14" x 12" floor tom
16" x 14" floor tom
18" x 16" floor tom
20" x 16" bass drum

Now, get on it TAMA!

I have this configuration minus the 10” and love it. My previous setup had 10x8 and 12x9 and I like the 1” shallower 12” better. If for nothing more, it lets me set the tom lower. For me the shallower floor toms tune up easier and don’t fight me as much.

I tried to answer your question, and after a lot of thought, I just could not do it. Even tried to spread it across two sets. Just too many variables and combinations to decide.

I thought it would be easy.

So clearly a lot of us like our kick 22x14

Drum companies take note! That size is so rare in lower end kits.

My home practice kit has a 20x10” kick, and it has the perfect tone for a 20”. So my days with deep cannon kicks are done. I feel the same way about toms, to a lesser degree. I do like deep snares, though...

Man I love my Sonor Safari 16 in kick (it's a little cannon), but I wanted to try a virgin 24 in and shallow 14 in kick-which I have a Pearl Decade maple and I love the kick especially (it's a big cannon). I loved my 22X18 kick I had too. I bet if I try a 20 in kick I'd love it. I thought about getting rid of my Sarfari and Pearl kits and buy 20 in kick kit. But rather than compromise why not have both extremes.

For me it would be;

16x16 floor tom
12x8 mounted tom #1
14x10 mounted tom #2
14x6 snare
22x16 bass drum = I have several 22x14 bass drums now & one 22x18 bass drum. I pick 22x16 in hopes of combining the things I like best from each, but I may just loose them instead. I would have to listen to a few 22x16 to be sure.

AND then for add-ons ( I hate it it when there aren't a selection of add-ons);

10x7 mounted tom
18x16 fl tom

I know it would be very expensive, but wouldn't it be cool if all of ur toms had snares that could be switch on like Tama does with their 14x10 snare/tom?
Then you could have a bunch of different sounding snares all on one kit - for times when u don't need a bunch of toms.

I want 14" and 15" toms (or floor toms) to have SEVEN lugs instead of eight.

Exactly what I currently play :
22x16
10x9
12x10
16x14

Please bring back the 22x16 bass drum and deeper tom in the 10 12 16 configuration. 10x7 is too shallow, not enough body to my ears.

Or my all time classic.
22x16
12x8
13x9
16x16

14x24, 6.5x14, 9x13, 16x16, 16x18.

Sometimes it pays to have traditional taste- it’s really easy to find my favorite sizes.
